I am using Palm OS v3.00.2004, but from what I have read elswhere this probably effects PPC as well. SmartSTv3 will not search or display more than a few results when there may in fact be many correct matches. For instance with Italy maps loaded searching for "via Pietro Micca " or "via P.Micca" by entering "Pietro" or "Micca" results in a list of 33 matches. However there are many more that it is not displaying. I am looking for "via Pietro Micca " in Turin. I can find it manually on the map so it is in the system. But I cannot find it in any searches because it too far down the list of results. Even if I filter the search to turins postcode 10121 it still will not match because it is only searching through the top of the list of matches I suppose. So as far as SmartSt is concerned the search is complete before it finds the correct result. Pretty annoying really. It is very time consuming to find a street manually and when you do you cannot find street numbers like you can through the search feature.

I guess the other possibility is that not all the streets on the maps are actually indexed in SmartSt3. However I suspect it is the search function that is faulty. Anyone else getting this sort of behaviour?

I think it might have been some strange sense of humour, but it beats me too. Anyway I am not sure if it is a bug or finger trouble on my part. Either way the search capabilities of SmartSt are at times very difficult to use.

I was hoping the -erm- limitations were limited to PPC

It in no way enthralls me to see that the Palm environment is rapidly experiencing a list of dysfunctionality

Any solutions?

I just tried this address in my Navman 630 V3 and it does not find it if you search all of Italy. This appears to be because it displays only the first 99 matches for Micca. Who was this Pietro Micca guy who has all the streets named after him?

When I told it to look for a street in Torino (the local speeling of Turin), it found it.

Anyone else seen this problem with SmartST v3.00.2004

"Navigate to the selected destination" WON'T

I now have over 50 favourites in my list. In the past I could select any of them and press the FORWARD ARROW (Navigate TO) at the bottom of the page and SmartSt would route me to the destination. For some reason it has now lost the ability to do this. Now I have to "Show the selected destination" (favourite) on the map, tap it, zoom in and select the Navigate TO option from the pop up list. This is a pain.

Quick NAV points and Recent destinations work perfectly so I am puzzled as to what the cause is. I am wondering if it is a function of the number of saved favourites I have? anyone else seen this problem.

G'day dununda (logger???) I'm also experiencing frustrating bugs on a Palm T3 with SmartST v3.00.2004, but not the ones you've got.....yet.

The 16bit colours for maps only 'stick' for one instance of running the app. On re-run, colours revert back to 8bit and can only be regained (back to 16bit) by deselecting then reselecting the applicable map database.

Avoid toll road functionality is flukey at best.

Tried installing to a completely clean hard-reset device with newly formatted SD card - same result. :x

Tic

Thats strange. Scuse my ignorance but how do you know the map displays are switching from 8 to 16 bit colours? I have no selections for changing map colour depth and I have the same T3 hardware as you. Was wondering if the difference you are seeing might simply be Topography displayed vs hidden. Topography OFF reduces the colours displayed on my maps but is of course nothing to do with 8 bit or 16bit.

In regard to the problem I have with the (Navigate to..) function not working I was wondering if anyone else has more than 50 favourites recorded yet?

Also correct me if I am wrong but it seems the Favourites are stored in the SmartSt.prc file and therefore you cannot readily remove them and try with a clean database. Shame they dont live in a separate file. My T3 has the following 7 SmartSt SsP3 files:

SmartST-Trip.dat
SsP3Journeys
SsPageoban.dat
SmartST
GPSLib-SsP3
SsPasigreg.dat
SsPacdkeys.dat

Can anyone tell me what each file is for. In particular the first three. The latter four would appear to be the application, GPS library and Registration/Validation stuff.

Cheers Dununda and Yes Logger..

As I remember it, at v1.3 (SP2), NAVMAN introduced the 16bit colours. The map CD's have the roads stored as 16bit, however pre-SP2, they only rendered as 8bit.

The feature is not user selectable and the only way to tell is some road classes changed colour at the version change.

eg. yellow minor roads became a redish colour and there were more colours for all variety of road classes. Just mine doesn't work. Sad
