I know that a car speedo is about 10% higher than a GPS display but is the GPS 100% accurate?
For instance if you use an external antenna is the refresh rate on iCN510 faster (therefore more accurate) than if I only use the attached antenna?
Can I really rely on the GPS displayed speed for road speed limits? i.e if my speedo is saying 77mph in a 70 mph limit but my Navman says OK you are only doing 70mph - which do I believe?
Any views or any experience, please..

I'd trust my GPS readout over the speedo in almost every instance (SA status notwithstanding). I have Cruise Control on my car and if I set it to 74mph, all of my GPS devices read 70mph. I've also timed myself along stretches of the M25 using the 100m markers and once again the GPS was just about spot on. I had to do this at 75mph (120kph) to make the maths easier though, so don't tell anyone.

I was interested in reading you reply to that because I too noticed that my vehicle readouts were all about 5-7mph out when compared to the gps.
Hope the Speed Camera's agree.

Posed the same question to Navman Tech support and their answer is as follows - for general interest.
"The Navman reciever relays this info at 1 second intervals accurate to 0.1m p/sec which is about as accurate as it gets without using say F1 timing equipment"
I suggest Tim, that you carry a copy of this with you when you are stopped at 75mph on the largest car park in Europe!  [/i]

You can only get a speed readout if you have set a route, unless you are on the GPS Status page. Have a look at P. 19 and beyond for how to get the speed readout.

You can only get a speed readout if you have set a route, unless you are on the GPS Status page. Have a look at P. 19 and beyond for how to get the speed readout. |
With the greatest respect to our Moderator, Tim, I think you can get a speed readout on the Navman without having a route set. In this state, you can get a compass bearing, time and speed. However, you cannot get an average speed without a route being set.
Correct me if i'm wrong. 8O

Note my "unless you are on the GPS Status page" proviso. This is where you get the information you state above, along with Lat/Long position. You can also get this from the Satellite Signal Strenghts page but, since this page is accessed from the GPS Status page, I ignored it. I suspect that what Nigbo really wants is how to get the speed displayed on a map page without a route set and I don't think that is possible.

| my question is simple - I have seen pictures of map display, showing current speed in bottom right corner. How do i get to set the speed? All i have in this spot is an eta for arrival at destination |

Tap the readout that you have. It cycles through various options, speed being one of them.

Tapping that corner of the display scrolls through the options. Again, P. 19 of the .pdf manual explains this. You must have a route selected to view these options.
