Having spent several days reading forums on Sat Nav I have swithered and swayed between Tom Tom Go, Navman and PDA/TT3. I am a disabled driver, fed up with getting lost but worried about buying the right kit to keep on the right road, that I can operate easily. Though the new TT5 looks the best to me it is too bulky and the mount seems to be fiddly. The Navman icn510 has a good size screen in a slim unit but appears not to be as user friendly as TT5 and doesn't have full postcode search. PDA/TT3 might be the answer but I don't know exactly what to buy or how to set it all up. Can anyone help me navigate ('scuse pun) through this fog!

Thanks

As I understand it from the various reports I have seen about TomTom 5, the software will be available to load on a hand-held pc in the same way as TT3 can be. This may be the best solution for you.

I currently have an HP iPAQ 2210 hand-held and a Globalsat 318 bluetooth GPS located in the boot. The 2210 is mounted in a Brodit mount and all works very well. I do not yet have any 'routing' software by use Memory-Map's 1:50,000 OS maps to track my location.

I will probably add either TomTom 5 or the new Destinator PN routing software when this becomes available, hopefully in April or May.

Hello lostthewill

I think it may be better to wait for a few more weeks now and see what the new versions of TomTom Go and TT5 are like when they actually get released, how the Safety Camera data can be used on them as well.

Lots of units will then become available with the TT5 software, and I know this will make a choice more difficult, but at least you will have the opportunity to have the latest software and maps.

Thanks both for your advice.

You're right pocket it makes sense to wait and see what happens after GG5 release. I hope there will be a PDA/GPS bundle I can buy which will be idiot proof to install and use! I do wonder though if I might not get such easy operation with a PDA as the TTG unit offers.

Regards

Hi lostthewill - from what you say I would think a PDA based system would not be your best bet - especially if you are not familiar with or have no extra need for a PDA.
I think setting up the PDA system (and hiding it away every time you park the car) is the biggest pain.
As far as the navigation goes I find my TT3 brilliant - even my wife is impressed and she hates computers! .. so the newer versions should be even better.

I use a Mio 168, which is quite handy in size, doubles up as a PDA, and is accurate. I use Tomtom software, which seems to be the best supported software at the present.

Thanks

Thanks Baldlygo, I think you're right. As I have restricted use of my hands, using a stylus is not the best idea even if I could get my head round setting it all up. The TTG has got to be the answer for me. I will have to get it mounted within easy reach of my left hand and accept that it's chunky!

Thanks Brooke, from all the reviews I've read, it would appear that TTG5 will be the most user friendly Sat Nav on the block!

I hope TTG5 will be available soon, can't wait to stop taking the 'scenic route' everywhere!

Cheers Smile
