If I connect my TTG permanently to an electrical supply via the ignition (using the step down transformer) will it damage the TTG internal battery?
I’m fed up with the lead trailing across the car and wish to integrate it into the car. I have already brought an external aerial so I don’t really want to buy the permanent car kit. |

If you are going via the ignition the unit will only be on when driving. If the TTG is being used it should make no difference. The Lith-Ion battery is quite robust anyway. _________________ Richard

Hi Oldboy
I bought a second cigarette socket. and connected it just behind the dash with 2 scotch lock connectors.
just plugged in the ttg lead and way you go. Iv hidden the wire behind the dash so you cant see any. In all it cost less than a fiver. When i switch off the car it turns off the main supply to the ttg. All fuses that are ment to be there are intact. All works fine. |

My only concern was that the battery might be over charged. Hopefully as Richard suggests it's quite robust.
Wouldn't it be good if there was an option in the menu to turn the TTG on and off via an ignition feed rather then just the button on the front? |

As with most new recargable batteries they cant overcharge, and as you remove the ttg whenever you leave the car. I cant see it being a problem. |

Thanks for the info.
Surely if tt know there is a problem with the power leads then they should be modified. As i read it in the instructions. correct me if I'm wrong. You are supposed to connect your ttg vie the cigarette lighter when you get in the car. This runs the device whilst you travel. on finishing your journey you remove the power supply and ttg for safety.
that is what i do with mine.
If this is dangerous then tt should withdraw the power supply's and replace them surely. My male cigarette connector for ttg has i fuse in it. It that a new safety feature? |

To put this into perspective, in percentage terms TT say that it’s a very small number that they have to deal with. Some of the problems may well have been with older cars too with not so good electronics. Most users do not have a problem, but you do only have this one once!!
Unless you have a crowbar or similar fitted the general consensus is that the spike is most likely at engine start. So just make sure the cig lighter is not connected at that moment. |
