My setup is an HP Jornada 520 and a Garmin etrex. The HP's processor is an SH3 and it operating system is windows CE version 3.0.9348 (build 9616).

The problem I have is that after a successful installation, which included online activation, the Navigator V2 software after only a short period of operation advised that it would require activation and presented me with a "unique" device ID. I logged onto the TomTom website and found that my software was already authorised and that I could not obtain an authoristion code for 6 days. I emailed TomTom and a few hours later they replied with an activation code. I entered this and all seemed OK. Again after a short time the program advised that it would require authorisation and presented a different "unique" ID ! the code emailed to me was not valid. I have since carried out a hard reset and reinstalled the software. The Navigator program, GPS and English voice prompts in internal memory and the GB map on a CF card. During the installation process my PC connected to the internet and at the end of the installation the software was activated. All seemed fine except that again after a short period the program yet again advised that it would require authorisation and presented a third different "unique" ID !

I don't have a great interest in the finer points of pocket PC specification but after a bit of surfing today it seems that:

(i) The pocket PC 2002 specification only supports the ARM processor

(ii) One of the main "benefits" to software developers of working to the Pocket PC 2002 specification is that they can develop applications requiring access to the unique device ID for digital rights management.

I may be putting 2 and 2 together and making 5 but it seems likely to me that TT Navigator V2 with its software activation mechanism is incapable of running on the HP520.

I'd be very interested to hear from anybody who is successfully using the program on an HP520.

By the way I will make these same observations to Tom Tom and will post any feedback

Elladen, certainly device id (eg serial number) is only available from Pocket PC 2002 systems onwards for products that would like to use some form of DRM to restrict piracy. Now I suppose it depends on how TomTom get their ID numbers. The ID numbers they ask you to enter aren't Pocket PC device ID's, so they may be generating them from the specific device ID or they may not be using this and have some other form of number generation they're using.

As TomTom are selling it for older SH3 processors then I'd suspect they're not using the Pocket PC device ID.

Elladen,

I've been using TT Nav V2 very successfully on my similar set up since it came out.

I have a HP545 running WinCE Version 3.0.9348 (Build 9357) connected to a Garmin GPS76. Like you, the programme, GPS and Voice are stored internally, and the GB map is on a CF card.

I have had no problems with TT Nav V2 (and now 2.0.1) so far (here, can anyone smell burning....), so although I don't know why you are having these annoying problems, hopefully this shows that TT Nav can run succesfully on older Jornadas with SH3 processors.

Good luck.
