Hi,

First post but I have been lurking for a couple of weeks.

My setup is an Ipac 2210, Globalsat 308, Tom tom 3

I had all the locking up problems others reported and yes I was using an SD card changed to a CF card and "fingers crossed" everything seems to be working. Thanks to you all for putting all the helpful suggestions here.

Anyway. My question is. What would you recomend as a Poi warning system using my setup Checkpoint or Gps assist. I have read both reviews and both seem to have good and bad points

Any suggestions, good or bad, would be appreciated

best Wishes

Anne

Well, I've never used GPS Assist but Checkpoint seems to work perfectly well with TomTom and is free. Why not download it and try it and see if it does what you want?

GPSAssist will do a lot of things CheckPOInt won't, such as allow you to synchronise POIs directly from your Pocket PC. My suggestion is to try CheckPOInt first and see how you get on. If you want to use the Pocket GPS World camera database, CheckPOInt 2.0.2 is recommended rather than version 3. CheckPOInt 2.0.2 can be got from our download area.

If you want to try GPSAssist, there's a trial version which you can use without paying for a registration.

Actually, David, the latest version of CheckPOInt will let you synchronise POIs from your PPC:

http://checkpoint.oabsoftware.nl/index.php?MainURL=body-manual-b.htm

However, you can only do so from POIPlace.

Personally, though, I just use POI Edit to synchronise POI's as it's more flexible and easier to use via the PC, I feel.

PS. What has happened to POI Edit - the domain seems to have expired?

Indeed - sorry for the lack of precision. GPSAssist will allow you to synchronise POIs directly from Pocket GPS World - which CheckPOInt will not.

The whole www.dnote.nl site appears to have disappeared apart from a place marker - I can only presume some kind of problem with the hosting.

thanks David,

I looked at Gps Assist and liked its features but I read somewhere that there were problems with it.

Have those problems been sorted now

GPSAssist was totally rewritten earlier this year - the reports of serious problems relate to the old version 1, not the new version 2.

The only problem I'm aware with GPSAssist is that hardware buttons don't work on the iPAQ hx4700 and possibly other WM2003SE machines. Try it and see.

Hi, David,

I have Checkpoint installed now and it seems to be working ok.

I will download GPSAssist and try that too.

Many thanks for the assistance

Have a good Christmas

Hi,

I have been using GPSassist for a few journeys now and like it very much.

I guess my trial period will be coming to an end soon and will pay for the full version.
However, checking the Gpsassist forums, there seem to have been a lot of disgruntled people over the last few months not getting the unlock key for days or lack of communication from GPSassist themselves.

Can anyone tell me if the program is still being developed and have the registration issues been resolved

Thanks in advance

Anne

Didn't have any problems with obtaining the key when i switched from CheckPOInt 2.0.2.0 to GPSAssist a couple of weeks ago.

There doesn't seem to be any further development of GPSAssist at the moment, but it works fine as it is. Hopefully you shouldn't have any problems if you decide to buy an unlock key.

As an aside, I've now figured out what was causing the hardware button problems on my hx4700 - I've posted the solution both in the TomTom Navigator forum here and on the GPSAssist forums.

Thanks David & Graham,

I do intend to register to carry on using the program, I like it much better than Checkpoint. I had lots of problems with that.

As for development, I don't suppose there is much more they can do with it, (I'm sure I'll get corrected about that Smile )

Thanks again

Regards Anne
