|
|
I'm running Navman SmartST on my iPaq 5550. I have been trying to work out how to selectively display my imported POIs. It seems to be 'all or nothing' which clutters the screen. Some POIs I want to display all the time and others I just want to display occasionally. Does anyone know if this can be done? (Short of removing and replacing them in the memory each time.)
Regards,
Stefan |

Unfortunately this is something you'll have to live with, for the time being at least.
However, Navman are aware of this bug and it will hopefully be addressed in a future Service Pack. _________________ Tim |

There is a strangeness for sure
I managed to get 2 to display with my own BMP - freshly created just for the job.
then for some reason best known to much beings with much higher intellect than my own - it pomptly decided to replace them with one of its own.
Has anyone figured out the store route (setup > setting) and replay it?
It seems to jiggle the GPS BT on selecting start unless, of course, I am greatly mistaken |

Tim,
Thanks for the reply. I look forward to any fix. It does seem a bit odd that it was not spotted during development. I would consider it a fairly basic requirement. Never mind, as a beginner this is all adding to my knowlege.

Another source of improvement would be to simplify the selection of custom POIs. It's just too time consuming having to go through all the menus, selecting My POI, selecting the right POI file etc etc. It should be as easy as selecting a favourite. Just my opinion...
Another thing: Has anyone noticed that it's impossible to close down SmartST V3 from within the application? If you tap-and-hold on the map and select Close Application, nothing happens. This is clearly a bug since it was working in V2. Now I have to use the iTask app in Windows Mobile for shutting down. Not a critical thing, but still a bug.

By the way, is there anyone else but me that misses the feature of telling SmartST only to warn for POIs on the route? I believe this feature is existing for iCN users but it has been left out in the PPC version. It's very annoying to get a warning for a speed camera that isn't on my route... _________________ TomTom GO720T: App ver 8.351(9982/090518), OS:315187, GPS v1.20, Boot 5.5120

If it is then it would definitely be a welcome addition to the PPC version. _________________ Ian.

icsys, you definitely seem to have been lucky getting a good piece of iPAQ2210 in terms of cooperation with SmartST. :D
It's a clue to me how the behaviour can be different when the HW and SW platform is seemingly identical... _________________ TomTom GO720T: App ver 8.351(9982/090518), OS:315187, GPS v1.20, Boot 5.5120

I just noticed that the application does indeed close down if and only if you press the joystick button on you iPAQ after you've selected Close Application. I still claim this is a bug since it was working properly in V2... _________________ TomTom GO720T: App ver 8.351(9982/090518), OS:315187, GPS v1.20, Boot 5.5120

Like ICYS, I am able to close V3 form within the application.
No need to click on joystick button either.
I have found that I am able to run Windows Media Player while running SmartST. Only prolem I get is if I need to switch back to the player o change tracks etc, it closes SmartST. This was never a problem with V2, which I still have and maybe should think about passing on to someone. _________________ HTC HD2 - Used only for Sat Nav (now using an iPhone 4 for phone)

Same here. I have no problem closing the app. using the "Exit Application"option. I get a "Yes - No" confirmation box, tap "Yes" and the app. closes. _________________ Tim |

I guess I have an evil spirit in my iPAQ messing up things...
Regarding the feature to limit POI warnings to only appear when the POI is on your route, this doesn't seem to be implemented on the Navman products, but on TomTom GO. I read about it in this review. I hope Navman implements it in SmartST V4... _________________ TomTom GO720T: App ver 8.351(9982/090518), OS:315187, GPS v1.20, Boot 5.5120

Ulf,
The option to warn only if the POI is on the calculated route is item 9 on the wishlist, the thread of which is here. Please feel free to add to it as you see fit. The numbering system has gone a bit awry but I'll tidy it up in the near future.
One thing to bear in mind, though, is that if the Custom POI isn't accurately positioned then it might appear to SmartST not to be on the route. Perhaps a "Warn if POI within X feet/yards/metres of calculated route." option could be implemented. _________________ Tim |

Excellent! I will, at some stage, go through the wishlist and add a few things that I feel should be added or improved in the next release.

Gosh I thought there was/is a POI proximity alert in ST3 - both audio and visual with maximum distance 5,000+ feet?
I do not experience any problems in closing ST3 although finding the close window/program X in top right-hand corner can be a bit evasive.
The fall back?
Exit application has always worked for me.
I think I have the perfect solution:
1- scrap all the extra research & jiggery-pokery of a dedicated driver. Evidence base: look at the range of responses in this thread alone. If that can be extrapolated and represented ... well it looks like a frying tonight sorta task
2 - stop IMHO immediately the 2210 compatibility - make it incompatible
3 - implement PR related solution by giving all 2210/4420/ST3 owners a brand new iPAQ that is 4420 ST3 compatible :P |
