I am having difficulty getting this update to work. I have downloaded the file as instructed in the manual. When I try to run it a small window comes up on my desktop with the following instruction -
'No update files could be found. Please re-run Update from the command line and specify the directory containing the update files as a command-line parameter.'
I'm afraid that this does not mean anything to me, can anyone assist?
I'm using an iPaq 5550.
Regards,
Stefan |

What is the size of the file you have downloaded? Also, which platform are you using? If it's the PPC, use this page, go through the selections and click Mirror 1. This will take you to the download box; the English UK file is about 5Mb. _________________ Tim |

Tim,
I carried out the download as per your instructions. I am using the PPC. I'm afraid that the result was the same on running the update.

Tim,
The version on the PPC is 3.00.0042.
The size of both files that I have downloaded is around 5 megs.

I have just tried to re-apply the update and verified that it is working.
Your version number is pre SP1. Had it been the latest it would explain the message ' No update files could be found'.
On clicking 'Run' I get the security warning then the Updater unzips.
I am at a loss as to why you can't run it.
Try running the files from the server rather than downloading it. It should install the update directly from the server rather than your desktop although either method should work.
On successful updating the version will be V3.00.0050
SmartST desktop will be V3.2.1.286 _________________ Ian.

Hot diggity!
SmartST desktop shortcut has a long name with 3_1_2_32 included in the application name.
Under the ST Desktop menu I get the version number you mention
Q: why can't I run ST desktop without PPC link? OK the time between Cancel Next is sufficient to to Help > About to confirm version number but really? Is such a chore needed? |

You can run the ST Desktop without the device connected if you want. Just keep clicking cancel until the desktop app opens.
The Desktop's purpose is to communicate with and manage the device so it's natural for it to ask for the device to be connected. _________________ Ian.

Appreciated icsys
I guess all the other applications that link between PC and PPC must be doing something wrong?
They don't seem to work with quite as many apparent limitations or pop-ups |

I have resolved the update problem. My PC and PPC are now
both displaying the version numbers listed by Tim, (above).
For the information of anyone with a similar problem --
I wondered if the problem had anything to do with the update not finding the location of something it needed to complete the process. I found that after downloading the update extracted files to a folder called 'Navman Updates' on the C drive of my PC. I located the update folder and then ran the exe. file in the Smart ST3 update folder. The update then successfully updated the SmartST 3 software on my desktop. A window then invited me to update the Navman software on my PPC. The whole thing worked a treat and now all is well.
Tim, Thanks for your support. I am new to forums. Even in a few visits I have learned a lot, it's a great way to share information and solve problems.
Thanks again,
Stefan |
