I was at Chancery Lane yesterday and wanted to go South of the river. It sent me over Holborn Viaduct. I was halfway along the viaduct when it told me to turn right onto the road below. That would have involved smashing through the barrier and dropping 30 feet onto the road below. My friend said, "Will, don't do it, this isn't Grand Tjeft Auto". So after a bit of thought I carried on and it replotted a more sane route. Close shave!
Anyone else had TomTom try and kill them?

It's a map error. You should report the issue to TeleAtlas. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Was the navigator map showing a right turn as well? I have had several instances where voice instructions have directed me one way (some times where there was no way to go) and the navigator arrow was showing a different way ..The later was usually correct!

I've found it quite common with teleatlas maps. Another good one is on the East Cross Route between leyton and bow heading into the city just before the small tunnel. As it happens its on the opposite side of the road to the GATSO:1131@40 51.54824, -0.02902 speed camera. Had it with both Navman and Tomtom which both use teleatlas maps.
Seems to happen most where the road rises or descends and where there are overpasses or underpasses. Does anyone know if the maps contain road height information and whether the mapping software takes any noitice of it. |

I'm not sure about height information, but the maps do contain a concept of "passes over" or "goes under".
As Darren said earlier in the thread, such errors should be reported to TeleAtlas.

A few times I've been driving over the tyne bridge and TomTom has decided that I'm not actually on the bridge, I'm on the quayside below. You would have thought that it would assume first and foremost that I'm continuing on the route orginally plotted if it wasn't sure, but no |
