My experience is that you can't just load Navigator 2004 maps in the Navigator 3 software - well, more accurately, you can use the maps, but you can't activate the software.
I have TomTom Navigator 3 Great Britain and TomTom Navigator 2004 HP Edition Europe. In Navigator 2004, I can use all the European maps; my Navigator 2004 Product Code is valid for the whole of Europe.
I can happily use the Great_Britain map in both Navigator 3 and Navigator 2004. However, if I try to load one of the other maps, such as France or Germany, into Navigator 3 I'm asked for an Activation Code. Not only is the Device Code displayed by Navigator 3 different to that displayed by Navigator 2004 (the last character is different), but the notes I have from TomTom say that the Navigator 2004 Product Code is not valid for Navigator 3 anyway.
There's signs that TomTom are moving to "version 5" software - presumably a second release of the "common platform" software that underpins all their current products apart from TomTom Navigator 3. They've announced TomTom Mobile 5 yesterday, and I expect now that there will be a "version 5" software release to underpin the next European release of Navigator for the Pocket PC.
Hopefully this will soon remove any further need to look back to Navigator 3. It seems clear that TomTom are retiring the Navigator 3 program code. For example, Navigator 3 does not support landscape mode or VGA under Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition.

I have a Bluetooth Dell Axim 30 using TTN 2004 (the USA software/maps version – NOT the TTN 2004 HP Edition Europe).
I heading for Europe this summer and was looking into getting TomTom Maps of Western Europe (370116010 – maps only).
Are TTN 2004 USA version and TomTom Maps of Western Europe (370116010) compatible?
TomTom’s website is kind of brief on info and not very helpful in this regard.
In its US webpage for TTN 2004 it does not list any European mapping software. In its European webpage, TT does not say if its European marketed mapping software is compatible with the TTN 2004 marketed for USA/Canada.
Can anybody clarify that for me?
Thanks |

I am afraid you are asking this in the wrong thread. _________________ Lutz

OK Sorry I'll rephrase the question.
Can anyone tell me if the maps of Western Europe now supplied with TT4 cover Ireland?
Thanks

Just to be a pain in the as....
The data of the article says "10th January 2004"
Think it should be 2005. _________________ Gunnar Nystul, Forum Admin, TomTom Forum Norway and Nystul Navigasjon |

The maps supplied with TomTom Navigator 2004 HP Edition are the 39x series maps that many TomTom Go users are using. I suspect these are the same maps sold to anyone who wants to add European mapping to TomTom Navigator 2004 USA, but I'm not sure.
They don't include detailed mapping of the Republic of Ireland.
We're expecting a new version of TomTom Navigator for the Pocket PC for European users in the next couple of months, which is likely to have new maps. However, I wouldn't count on good mapping coverage of the Republic of Ireland, as I don't think TeleAtlas has moved on that far in the Republic yet.
I must admit, though, that I haven't been following the situation with the Republic that clearly - if anyone else wants to correct what I've written, feel free.
To help clarity, I suggest not talking about "TomTom Navigator 4" - whilst there's version 4 software around, it's not sold as Navigator 4. It's unknown as yet what a future European Pocket PC version of Navigator will be called.
The "common platform" versions of Navigator for the Pocket PC are TomTom Navigator 2004 USA (which is a retail product) and TomTom Navigator 2004 HP Edition (which is only available bundled with certain iPAQs).

Sorry to be thick
Can anyone tell me if the Eurpoean Maps with the RZ1710 Tom Tom Navigator 2004 pack on CD can be used on this package without any extra payments for registering and installing etc.
I am off to France this summer but have not got round doing anything with the other maps yet ! 8)
The instructions supplied with the package don't make any mention of what you do with the other maps charges etc.
Very pleased with my package at present, have downloaded your Camera database, works a treat as well !
Thanks for a brilliant site and great advice.
Keep up the brilliant work !

I have just used the Eurpoean Maps with the RZ1710 Tom Tom Navigator 2004 to travel through France, Spain and Portugal.
The mapping was very good except for in the Algarve where most of the Towns only show Major roads.
You do need to Purchase an activation Code to use these maps Euro 189
It is well worth it though |
