Just for clarification - this thread is about changing the proximity alert sounds, not the spoken navigation instructions. _________________ Lutz

I have made voice files work for TomTom Palm 4.40 but I will post a fresh thread rather than cross-post (Sorry Lutz)
Meanwhile, *on* topic does anyone know how to use Viftool to replace the sounds in DATA.CHK? I tried to create ogg files for each sound (using the name of the sound as the filename - beep1.ogg etc) but as soon as I run Viftool, it starts looking for the voice files (starting with 'after.ogg). In fact this is how I managed to figure out how to change all the voice files.
As far as I can tell, it should be very trivial after you have done voice files but I guess I need the filenames and perhaps some way of telling Vivtool not to look for the 59 default filenames....?
Tim
PS I will post new thread about voice files under the subject 'Custom TomTom Voice Files' - in case anyone wants to look for it. |

I have made alternative voice-files for TomTom, and warning voices for CheckPOInt in Norwegian as well.
Do you have a instruction how to convert this files for working with NavPack, Mobile, palm.
And what is the differencies between the different versions of TT that make this only work with the listed numbers? _________________ Gunnar Nystul, Forum Admin, TomTom Forum Norway and Nystul Navigasjon |

Gunnar,
please send us your norwegian warning sounds (WAV, 22050 Hz sampling rate, specify exactly which file should replace which sound) and we will create a norwegian version for you.
The versions are different because the amount of strings differs from build to build (strings are also stored in data.chk) _________________ Lutz

Not a problem if you have the POIs for that. What should it say? _________________ Lutz

A huge THANK YOU goes to Lutz Bendlin for creating Norwegian sound warnings.
There will be a lot of happy Norwegians when this goes out to the members of the Norwegian TomTom Community.
We have the higest penalties for speeding i the whole world, and there will be twice as many speed cameras here within the next tree years.
Approx 600 cameras for 4,5 mill people. _________________ Gunnar Nystul, Forum Admin, TomTom Forum Norway and Nystul Navigasjon |

Good work on spoken POI warnings - Will the authors be prepared to share the code and executable like Ghostwheel - original author of viftool.exe and python script of the work?

After some feedback requesting louder voice files we decided to test the alert volume in the most extreeme conditions we could find. The best thing we could think of was a roaring sports car, so not doing things by halves we got hold of an Aston Martin DB7 Vantage.
As a result we have increased the volume of the POI alert warnings
