|
|
there was supposed to be a software only version of the 4460 for palm but nowhere i could find sold it and it was always out of stock on their website.
i know 4470 is just out but if anyone finds anywhere that does just the software i would be grateful if they could pass the details on.
also has anyone used the smartst v3 for the palm yet?
thanks

You could contact Navman regarding availability of maps for the Palm but the Navman Store is currently showing Palm maps as out of stock.

Matty
The way I understand it is that each Navman Map only pack ships with the applicable Smart ST v3 software. So If you bought the UK 4470 which comes with GPS + maps and then subsequently bought the USA maps you would find you got a second copy of the Smart ST v3 software. But as you say - in your own locale (Europe I guess) they generally only sell the maps bundled with the GPS. The trick might be to track down the map package from abroad. Say in the US. Buy the Europe add on pack that someone from the US would purchase for their 4470. My point being is that I believe the maps packs are in fact a complete software solution that just requires GPS and Palm.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong on this. I am after the 4470 Europe maps with or without GPS. In my case I have no need for the UK maps and don't want to have to buy a UK4470 GPS and add Europe maps to it. |

i might be wrong about this but on the sites that have the 4470 on pre order the software has detailed street level info for the uk but only major road coverage for europe. apparently this is to keep costs down. then you buy 'keys' for activating the extra maps.
i quote off http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/viewprod.php?product_id=2586&max_cat_id=15&vt=list
The GPS 4470 comes complete with Navman's New SmartST V3.0 Navigation software. Making the product more cost effective Navman are now supplying Smart ST with street level maps of UK and base roads of Europe. Using the base roads you won't need to swap memory cards evry time you cross a border. You can continuously navigate throughout Europe using the major road networks. Only taking up 50MB of memory, the roads covered within the basemap are Motorways, Major roads and most important roads for through traffic which connect the municipalities of the country and neighbouring countries. There are 1974 POIs included on the basemap. |

Yes Matty I believe you are quite correct for the 4470 when Sold in your part of the world. However my local Navman dealer will sell me the entire 4470, 16 country map set unlocked software only. He has it in Stock too BTW. I will double check for you that this is the case. It would seem to me it is a marketing ploy an Navmans part. |

".......the entire 4470, 16 country EUROPE map set ......"
and it costs about 200 pounds without the GPS. |

with the gps unit i have seen uk only detail maps with euro base maps for about £135 inc vat. so £200 for just the maps is a bargin. say the gps unit costs about £30 then i am paying £100 for 1 country and you are paying £200 for 16!!.
where is your supplier? do they have a website |

In the UK you will probably be able to buy the maps for all 16 countries for only £150. That is how much Navman are charging for the full EU PPC and iCN mapsets. I don't expect that the UK mapset for the Palm OS will vary much in cost.
The cost of the BT unit itself is puzzling, though. Expansys have it at £164 on its own, £152 with V2 maps for PPC and £162 with V3 maps of the UK and the European basemap! _________________ Tim |

From my point of view - the 4420 kit (BT GPS + ST V3 UK Map + ST V3 Euro basemap ) looks pretty good value all things considered
BBB
Oh - and of course - the 128 MB SD card (now how could I forget that?) |

Does anyone know why the 4470 kit is not going to work with a tungsten t5?
Thanks,

I am wondering if the delayed arrival of the 4470 might be so as they can infact make it T5 compatible prior to Major release? |
