I am using an iPaq 3870, Fortuna and Tomtom Navigator.
I have the latest Navigator installed.
(Version 3.03 - I think that's the most recent applicable one for my iPaq.)
There's a setting that you can have in the GPS signal monitor that makes the light on the iPaq stay on all the time.
I have this set - and nothing happens.
In the previous version of Navigator, it worked fine, no problems at all.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Are you having that problem while the iPAQ is connected to power? _________________ Lutz

Are you sure it was in the previous version? My experience with all TT incarnations is that the option only keeps the PPC live - i.e. it overrides the "turn off device if not used for..." in the Settings.
I always have to untick "turn off backlight if device is not used for..." to keep the display panel lit up. |

yes, definitely sure it was previous version. 3.0.
yes... ur right about what the option does.
why do u have the ""tunr off backlight..." option ticked off??
for normal usage of ur ppc - u are wasting battery power?
u shouldn't have to haved this box unticked if the TT setting worked??

As I say, on my set up the TT option only keeps the PPC live but won't keep the screen backlight on. The options for the backlight are in the system settings for the device itself.
Can someone else help confirm this? |

yes... i think confirmation from others would help.
but... i would add... that i read the whole tomtom navigator manual from start to finish... (yes.... i know... very sad!)
and know that the function of the slide button in gps is supposed to keep the backlight on when navigator is in.
and... as i said... it used to work in an earlier version of navigator! _________________ iPaq 3870

Jammer, the IPAQ must be powered from an external source for the backlight to stay on.
The slide in the GPS settings just keeps the IPAQ ON but does not have any affect on the backlight. |

The ONLY purpose of this slider is to override the Pocket PC's power save mode when on battery power.
Generally for in-car usage this is a bad thing because you risk a complete power drain when you leave the Pocket PC in the car andd leave TomTom running.
Even if you switch the Pocket PC off (but leave TomTom open) there is a (minimal) risk that the midnight party lights will cause the PDA to stay on if TomTom detects activity then.
You should use a power connection while navigating in the car. This will automatically keep the backlight on. _________________ Lutz
