What is safety speed for in TT3?

Hi all

I'm new to this forum lark, so bear with me please.

Recently bought TT3 navigator, magic piece of kit, using it with IPAQ 5500 and an EMTAC jacket. Went down to London last week on business, planned the route, drove the route and found destination no problems. Only snag, which we will never overcome was some of the narrow streets, and high building losing the satellite signal for a second or two.

My question here is what is the saftey speed for? And what is the recommended setting please?

As soon as your speed exceeds the predefined speed that you have set for the safety speed limit, the map display on TTNav will be replaced be a blue screen that just shows the next turn.

The setting of the safety speed limit is all down to personal choice. I prefer to leave mine set at 75mph, whilst I know that DavidW prefers a much lower setting of 30mph.

As Robert says, I use 30mph. Navigator 3 shows a detailed schematic of junctions on the Safety Screen when you get near to them, which I find very useful.

Personally I find a scrolling map at the edge of my peripheral vision distracting at speed when, to my way of thinking, there's no good reason to look at it. If the map isn't displayed, there's no temptation to look at it whilst driving. My advanced driving training tells me to minimise distractions; I often drive with the radio off.

However, it is a personal thing; experiment with what works for you! A lot depends on your opinion of the Safety Screen; I find it clear and uncluttered, but some people don't like it.

FWIW I have the safety speed set at 200mph, so I never reach it (unless downhill with a hurricane as a tailwind ;))

I set mine @ 60mph without being entirely sure what it would do.
Over the next 2 days my system kept "losing" the map and displaying this odd screen. After mutch head scratching, cursing etc I finally figured out that this was the "warning" screen. Didn't notice any messages saying warning though...

It's not meant as a warning as such - but as an alternative to a scrolling map above a certain speed. As I said, I keep my safety speed at 30mph - above that, I find it preferable to have the safety screen than a scrolling map.

The choice of safety speed is a very personal thing.
