Does anyone know how to use the 32Meg internal memory on the iCN? You can view the contents on the Navman and it mentions it in the PC sync program but I haven't found any way to use it.
Presumably, you could copy maps or POI's into it but they would surely be erased as soon as you turned off (using the battery off slider if not the push button)?
Any ideas?

Oh well, it looks like nobody knows or can be bothered to tell me.
It seems a shame to have 32 meg and not be able to make any use of it. Come on guys and gals - someone must have some ideas!

It could be that the internal memory is what's required to run SmartST and that that's its only purpose. _________________ Tim |

My guess is that the internal memory option applies to Navman units with build in hard drives. The icn510 does not have one - but the software applies to several different units. The 510 needs that memory just to run it's programmes.

According to the SmartST Desktop program, when I selected to install the Basemap (with CD loaded), it showed that the (internal) Pocket PC only had 14MB free, and my Pocket SD has 128MB free. The Pocket PC selection is dimmed out though. So, I assume that the software was smart enough to see that the 32MB of the basemap (US) wouldn't fit.
I then installed the basemap onto the SD card.
When I played around trying to plot a route from California to Manhatan, New York, my iCN510 hung up at 99% route calculation. I managed to connected back to the Desktop program and saw 0MB available in Pocket PC. I guessed there was a huge core dump file generated by Windows. I had to use the hard reset to boot it back to normal and got rid of whatever that was that took up 14MB of storage. After that hard reboot I, the free 14MB came back.
So, my take on this is that the remaining 14MB can hardly hold any map... may be Rhode Island , and it's only available thru basemap installation option. |
