Some users have reported "double" voice announcements when using POI warning with the Pocket GPS World speed camera database.

eddie2k2 has found that rebuilding the .ov2 files of the October 2004 release of the the speed camera database using DumpOV2 helps. See his original post here and read onwards for people's comments.

I can't test this personally as I don't have a SmartPhone, but I post this here for what it's worth.

Richard, who looks after the speed camera database, is looking in to this. Any feedback is useful, though. I'll put a poll on this to try to find out if this is the fix - but I'm only going to leave the poll running for 14 days as a future camera database release may be run through DumpOV2 before release.

The latest release of the database is out - and the files have been run through MakeOV2, so there should be no need for TomTom Mobile users to reformat them.

Thanks to the people (two, at the time of this posting) who confirmed that the solution proposed by eddie2k2 should work. Hopefully the new database works without any problems or any jumping through hoops on TomTom Mobile.

Thank you for converting the files already,
there has been no stuttering at all on my Nokia 6600,
and they work fine on my pda as well.

Because of the lack of response from this poll i hope you are going to
continue to convert the ov2 files.
I can't understand why people did not vote, after all the amount that was
moaning about the double poi's, it must have worked for them as well!.

Hi,

I just want to take the time to express my gratitude to all those involved in this solution. You know who you are - sounds like an award acceptance speech doesn't it... thank you mum and dad, thank you God... Laughing Laughing Out Loud...

I'd vote and it's probably me being numb but I can't fathom how to.

Ho ho ho and all that,

Have a good one...

Merry Xmas

The poll closed as I set a time limit on it - knowing that Richard was likely to run the next release through DumpOV2 and MakeOV2 anyway. I didn't want to leave the poll going long after that was done.

The poll did confirm that these steps were likely to be the right solution - and, indeed, it seems that it's solved the problem. Thanks to everyone for their feedback.

Just put in the latest (Jan 05) version of the speed camera database and the problem of stuttering announcements has returned. Aaaaarrrggghhhhh!

It took a long time to set up all these POI alerts too!

I have a Nokia 6600 and using makeov2 and dumpov2 is definitely the solution to the "double speak" issue in TOMTOM Mobile.

The Feb 05 database worked "staright out of the box", has it been dumped and made using the above mentioned programs?

I do have a problem using the speed zoned POI's though, even after putting them trough dumpov2 and makeov2, you still get bad jitter.

Is this because of the sheer number of POI's and the Nokia 6600 can't hadle them all?

Is anyone else having probs with the speed zoned POI's?

yes its due to being to many files for the phone to handle

what i`ve ended up doing is remerging back together gatso`s 50, 60, 70 and tba back into one ov2.

so i get 20 , 30 & 40 limit warnings and the rest as just standard gatso warnings

and use the unsplit mobile database

and now find theres no jitter in the voices

How do you go about splitting the Gatso POI files.

I would like to have 30, 40, 50 with separate warnings and the rest as a generic Gatso warning.

Thanks,

I figured it out and made my own voice alerts, using the split files.
