I THINK this is called something like IP70 - check the RS Connections site _________________ Silva MultiNavigator

IP70 would be a weatherproofing specifier.
Most of the GPSes that use round plugs use 6-way mini DIN plugs and sockets.

Yeah I know what you mean about IP70 being a specification for weather proofing - I believe it is IP65 (the specification).
I have been looking for a plug as used on the Silva MultiNavigator for an in car charger as I can't find one any where and wanted to modify an existing in car charger that I have.
The Silva plug is a keyed 5 pin "mini din type" and when I checked (at work) on my RS CD it said it was an IP70 plug!
Can't check here at home as I don't have the CD. _________________ Silva MultiNavigator

With an IP rating, the numbers are crucial. IP65 is a common one. One digit is waterproofing, the other dustproofing - the higher the number, the better the protection.
RS online is at rswww.com - always useful to know! I've never come across a 5 pin mini-DIN, though - and RS don't seem to stock them (they do have 3, 4, 6, 8 and 9 way plugs).

Looking at the plug it's not actually a DIN spec plug.
The nearest I can find in RS is a Binder 719 series plug rated to IP40
See here.
The one I want is like the one on the right but a 5 pole version - it's hard to know which one as I can't actually plug it in to try.
I've tried e-mailing Silva but as yet no reply.
I have tried buying the official car socket -> Silva plug but can't find one anyway - but I really want to do a hardwire solution to both the Silva and my Navman PIN.
The Silva -> Serial Com lead only has 3 wires connected but it actually has the other 2 cut off (so I'm guessing!) these are the power leads - I could try a male 9-pin adaptor and just connect these up - but I won't until I can get the pin outs and voltages from Silva! _________________ Silva MultiNavigator
