haicom HI-204s

I have a Haicom 204s GPS receiver which has worked fine for me until now. I have changed jobs and my new car is a Peugoet 406 which has some sort of reflective windscreen and I cannot get a GPS reading with the receiver on the dashboard. I have resorted to placing it between the bonnet and windscreen on the exterior of the car. Even though the unit is waterproof I am sure this in not ideal but it the only way I can get a reliable signal, well until I go into the centre of London, where I get very lost as I get a GPS reading every now and then. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It seems that the only other option to placing the GPS on the car's exterior is a re-radiating antenna, unless the GPS has an external antenna option.

Does the GPS work in the rear screen - or is that also coated in such a way that GPS signals are blocked?

the vehicle is an estate thus it has a flat rear window with no direect line of site to the sky.
