Thought I might invest in this product for holidays in Europe only to find it is now not available through eXpansys or Global Positioning Systems. Has this product been withdrawn by TomTom does anyone know? |

I don't know if Tomtom has discontinued the product but there are allegedly some available here. _________________ Tim |

I realise it's something like 2.5 times the price of CityMaps Europe, but would Navigator Maps of Western Europe make more sense - assuming that you already own a country specific copy of Navigator? If TomTom follow previous practice, upgrading Navigator with the Maps of Western Europe is no more expensive than upgrading Navigator without it, and at least annual map updates are possible.
CityMaps seems to have been shunted into a corner. I'm told there's nothing in CityMaps that isn't in Navigator, and Navigator is much more sophisticated - for example, there's no voice navigation in CityMaps and certainly no support for TomTom Traffic. The POI file format is different, too - I believe you can convert between the two, but it makes life harder.
About the only advantage of CityMaps is that I believe you can download maps of individual cities to your device - but as storage cards are getting so cheap now, is that really a problem?
A final advantage is that you'll save on memory as you won't need both the CityMaps and Navigator programs installed (Navigator can't open CityMaps maps).

:D Many thanks for these replies. My main use would be just to find my way around towns on foot rather than driving across countries etc. I already use Metro for travelling on city transport but need paper maps to find out the names of bus/tram/train stops before it is of full use. Thought that CityMaps would allow me to just use what I need when I need it.
For UK travel I use CoPilot. Navigator sounds like it could be good if wondering round at night. Even with maps I was getting hopelessly confused when in Prague walking around the Astrological clock area!! And the rain didn't help either! Have to see if the cost is worth the effort. |

In that case, be aware that you can't use Navigator Maps of Western Europe without also having a country specific copy of Navigator. Maps of Western Europe is an add-on product - it will not activate the Navigator software.
