|
|
Navigon is an emerging name across Europe and Navigon's main office is situated in Würzburg, Germany. Recently Navigon have released European maps, started selling older versions with the Medion's packaged deal at Aldi Supermarkets and Halfords in the UK, and now Navigon have brought out version 4 of their Mobile Navigator which we will review here.
The full review is available here.

Hi,
Review is good, but I didn't see any mention of how large the various country maps are.....

Very interesting review. Has anyone idea how well the Navigon system works when purchased as an upgrade to the Kane Car Pilot? |

In theory you probably have the domed RoyalTek Sapphire receiver, so there shouldn't be any connectivity issues, it should work just fine with this as Navigon will work with any GPS Receiver that outputs an NMEA sentence. You won't get TMC because you will need the Navigon TMC Antenna. |

Good review,
I think I want TMC, but I already have a good GPS receiever but it's not the Navigon one.
Can I buy just the Navigon TMC receiver, or do have to buy the whole GPS + TMC receiver?
If it's just the TMC receiver, how would that connect to my PDA?
Thanks. |

Hi Yaz,
you can by the hardware only (the reciever, TMC module and/or Bluetooth module) at www.navigon.de or www.computeruniverse.de.
You also need the cable kit matching your pda, which you can also purchase from either of these sites.
I got mine from computeruniverse and they were delivering within a week.

Do you have to install all 7 CDs (Navigon web site says 5) if you just want the UK for example?
Thanks

You have to purchase the complete GPS and TMC kit as it's a plug-in module and won't fit any other GPS Receiver.

Yes unfortunately you do, and it's a long process but once you've done it once, you shouldn't have to do it again unless you change PC. However it does eat up a lot of space, so I've installed it to one of my external maxtor hard drives (but it does mean I can't use it on the PC when I'm not at my desk) |

No, I have only loaded the UK maps on my PC, as the space on my PC was limited.
You have to load the software without the maps, then from inside the software, you can load the maps.
I think. It was a while ago, but it can be done. |

Certainly if you follow the install program it tries to install all maps. |

Hi Dave...
Are there any UK suppliers of this software ?......I've checked the normal culprits but none of them seem to stock it.
Mike. |

Check out Peripheral Corner on the right of the site as a site sponsor. They are currently the main UK distributor for Navigon. |

Good review!
A while ago I needed another GPS receiver, and knew that one day I might like to try the Navigon software.. I bought a GNS 9830 from a seller on eBay (German, it wasn't easy!). I've been using it with my old Tomtom with TMC disabled..
If I reenabled TMC, would this work with Navigon?
Thanks. |
