The Israeli authorities have announced that all speeding tickets issued over the last thirteen months are to be rescinded.
A court has ruled that the evidence gained from their country's speed cameras cannot be trusted.
As a result, ten's of thousand of speeders will be let off their fines.
Following the judgement, the same cameras will still be used, however, the police say that they will need "new layers of evidence-gathering" to enforce penalties.
Reading between the lines, this suggests that the effectiveness of the devices will be severely reduced. _________________ Robert Brady |

My understanding is that there was no photographic record of the speeding offence and therefore is could not be validated by examining the vehicle speed against road makings. The same style of camera/ANPR is used in Israel for red light violations but in this case the camera provides a photograph and convictions from these units are not affected by the ruling. |

No photo of what? The distance/time recording presumably and they were relying on the road markings?
Gatso is mentioned in the link above so how did a defective system from an experienced company ever get off the ground? Penny pinching? |
