Garmin have admitted they have a problem but they need user logs to help identify the issue. _________________ Satnav:

rds tmc is not a temporary workaround for the issue. having used it today the device locks on to a signal downloads the data for a few minutes before disconnecting. it then scans all the FM frequencies this takes approximately 17 minutes before locking back on the same frequency and downloading the traffic data again this just repeats over and over again. |

They seem to be thinking the units are at fault. Maybe a recent rogue download. M8 and I have sent in developer logs.
Here's my jobs for tomorrow ......
1) Copy a full mass storage backup from 2015 to my ancient RDS 2597. If that works and the unit boots then I know I can fully restore from every file, goto step 2. If it bricks it then no problem, stop.
2) Do the same from a 2016 full backup to my DAB 2599 and see if it works, or not. Then update is slowly, one update at a time from GE to see at what stage it breaks.
3) If that works then I might do my 2699 from a 2017 full backup.
I've just taken full mass storage backups with Windows hidden files and protected system files visible so I can rollback to today, well that's the theory. _________________ Satnav:

I've not updated my garmin for several years. If you tell me how to look I can investigate and report back.
EDIT
Ooops! sorry. I didn't appreciate that there was a page 4. I was replying to your request on page 3 for people running old versions. It appears that you have moved on since then. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

If you have an LMT-D, does traffic work as expected? |

What we seem to be doing is getting the traffic when you first turn on the unit, maybe, then it only updates the traffic every 5 to 20 minutes, if you're lucky.
I used to be able to spot the regular spinning wheel briefly appear and disappear in the top left of the traffic section when it searched for updates and got a fix.
When I was out recently I didn't spot it once.
Anyway, software switches later. _________________ Satnav:

OK (Don't do this yet as I'm still testing)
Stage 1 successful (2597) .....
Before:
After:
The unit boots OK.
At this point note a few things.
1) The backup must have been made with Hidden and System Files visible:
2) You must be able to see the full filename.
3) The unit must be in MTP
Note my check, or not, settings (Win7):
When the unit first boots you will get a warning that you are installing older software - therefore, updates must write something into the units BIOS
Note: Once you press Yes to continue it does take some time before the warning disappears so be patient.
Right - The 2599 ............................................
Stage 1: Out to car, check it's still broken.
Yes ....................
2599 - Success:
Before:
After:
Traffic ..................... ?
I'll be back ..............
Still broken
It initially locks on, then disconnects, then that's it. Ages to reconnect.
So don't bother downgrading. The issue is their end. _________________ Satnav:

The latest, today, is that they have acknowledged, again, that they know they have an issue and are actively working on it with Inrix. _________________ Satnav:

Yes, I was up to Leatherhead last evening and it seemed OK again. Hopefully whatever it was has been sorted. _________________ ... Joe

It seems OK for me this morning, been solid green in diagnostic for 2 hours - but not for M8.
For the first time in a week the diagnostic TPEG reception has gone green. For M8, he's still got all reds across the board.
Surely this is a local transmitter issue _________________ Satnav:

One thing I did learn, now it's working for me, is that the RDS does come from Inrix as well.
Listed as 10 - Inrix.
I thought it would have come direct from Trafficmaster. _________________ Satnav:

Trafficmaster is a separate company and only covers motorways and some a roads whereas inrix covers all motorways a roads and around 100,000 km of b roads. |
