Where does GE stuff the downloaded maps so that I can delete all the old ones that are no doubt cluttering up my C:\ drive somewhere in true Garmin style? |

%programdata%\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I used to have an issue with this, as I posted before.
But, of late, it hasn't been an issue.
I 'think' if you only download to the unit it cleans up behind itself, but, if you download for Basecamp as well then it saves a copy for Basecamp to use. If you do do that then I ' think' it doesn't overwrite but just adds a new multi Gb map into the map folder.
When I had my full C: drive issue I had 4 map updates in there, along with a plethora of firmware and other updates.
If you do download for Basecamp then you do get an option to say where. _________________ Satnav:

If you download for BaseCamp then you can uninstall via Control Panel. However Garmin downloads the raw map files into the location mentioned above. They stay there is case a) you have multiple units and b) should you need to reinstall a map. Those often need a manual clear out and if you don't take up a fair bit of space, though these days with large disk sizes not as relevant as it was. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Well, last evening I updated both my G's. the first one took half an hour or so on stage 1 (downloading) then a few mins on stage 2. The second one just took a few mins on stage 2, indicating that the maps were d/l to my computer somewhere and remember K saying there was loads of old stuff on his C:\ drive. Just couldn't find the post saying where. |

Had a look where suss said and found the following:-
2017.20 14.7 Gb
2017.30 15.0 Gb
2018.10 10.3 Gb
Makes me wonder why the latest is only about 2/3 the size of the previous two.
PS No Basecamp. |

Yes
In that location was loads - deleted, got 10Gb back on my SSD
Because - GE had reset my Basecamp location from my D: to my C:
Must watch that. _________________ Satnav:
