Hi folks. hope all are well.
time to upgrade my car so opted for a bmw 320 sport which includes a sat nav this time while my previous model was almost 2 grand upgrade which i certainly didnt go for.
now up until now ive been very happy with my trusted TT930 with the forum camera allerts.
so a simple question is what are these in built sat navs like and do they compare at all to TT. i know sadly i will not be able to use the forum cameras so im thinking of just sticking with my 930 and not even setting up the inbuilt bmw version.

| I know nothing about the BMW devices but I reckon your pretty old 930 will soon join the rest of the NAV2 devices (that rely on TTHome) on the End-of-Life scrapheap whereby you won't be able to buy any new services or maps (or even "Operate my GO" via TTHome) within a matter of months. They started the cull back in November and it's only a matter of time before they pull the plug on the rest! |

oh great. i did read about the cull but thought the 930 would keep going for a bit longer.
me certainly wont buy another sat nav without the option of a sd card option and the last i looked about a year ago none were being made with that option.
even when they are pulled wont they still work but wont be able to update the maps as ive bought update for a year so they cant stop them early or can they. |

I'm pretty sure the rest of these NAV2's WILL be pulled soon but, as you say, they have agreed to honour any pre-ordered/future map/speedcam etc subscriptions. Maybe worth considering extending your map update service for another year or so if you're thinking of keeping a currently-still-supported NAV2 device as new subscriptions will add onto the end of/extend any current subscriptions.
Their original excuse for dumping some devices was because of "lack of memory" although many have/had an SD/MicroSD card slot for expansion (like almost all the x10/x20/x30/x40/x50's) anyway so that was just a very poorly worded cop-out! Even some of the older Ones & widescreen XL's have an SD card slot too.
Note all the newer TT NAV3/4 devices have a MicroSD card slot for future expansion anyway. |

| thanks for the replies mate. will keep an eye out for one then but after i get the car to see what that sat nav is like. sadly without pocket gps cameras. |

If you're talking about the latest BMW Sat Nav (NBT) it's a great but of kit, easy to program / use and very clear maps. The only downsides (imo) are, it's impossible to add user poi, routing isn't as good as TomTom and neither is Real Time Traffic (RTTI).

i guess its the latest as its a 17 plate.
this is what it says and there was an option to upgrade to profesional model but they can shove that for the price they wanted.
The navigation system Business is a veritable hub of useful functions: navigation system with a built-in 6.5" LCD colour display, radio, MP3 player, CD player and an RDS double tuner. Route guidance is provided via an arrow or map display, along with spoken instructions. The navigation system is operated intuitively via the iDrive Controller with direct menu control buttons and functional bookmarks or – depending on the vehicle's features – via voice control. The Navigation system Business knows the way to its destination in numerous European countries. TMC technology is used for the early detection of traffic obstructions and alternative routes are calculated immediately. This means the driver always arrives as quickly as possible at the destination. Map updates are available at BMW dealerships for three years without license fees. |

HAve had the BMW Pro nav on mine and been using it for 3 years. Lots of the pro services I don't use but having a dual map view is good.
Also love having the BMW phone app to use google to search for places and send direct the car nav. Using BMW routes on the laptop requires too much work.
Maps are okay, but London requires more frequent map updates.
Almost bought the jag in favour as the Jag allows POI uploads on a stick. This is why I still have my TT 1005 to show the POI's I want! aarrrrrggghhh!
