|
|
I've installed the latest updates to my two Garmins. The 2340 took 1h10m and the 2589 took 6h10m.
The 2589 hadn't sufficient space for all Europe so I removed a lot of unwanted stuff (as I had to last year on the 2340) but, unfortunately, this time I inadvertently included the UK ABC keyboard. Whilst I can carry on with the qwerty keyboard I would like to re-install the ABC version however it seems this cannot be done easily as Garmin no longer supply the download.
Although I thought I had deleted all keyboards except the UK ones all the keyboard files still show in the internal storage including en_GB.kbd 16.8KB and uk_UA.kbd 18.2KB but only 'British English' appears as a choice in the keyboard language selection list and produces the qwerty keyboard.
Strangely, on the 2340 selecting 'British English' produces the ABC keyboard.
Any help in re-instally the ABC keyboard will be appreciated. |

Not sure if this'll work but can't you simply copy the relevant file from one to the other? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

And once you have done that, back them both up, then you will have the right stuff for the device in question. |

I had thought of that but it seems that the "British English" option on the 2340 is the ABC keyboard and on the 2589 it's the qwerty keyboard so to which layouts do en_GB.kbd and uk_UA.kbd refer?
Although Garmin have stopped doing it is it possible that someone with a 25xx could download the English ABC keyboard file and sent to me?
My computer knowledge is a bit lacking when it comes to moving files around so I might wait until grandson visits!
@ M8TJT I had backed up the maps!
Edit: I'm completely up the wrongtree uk_UA.kbd is Ukrainian. |

I've just looked at my 2597 and 2599.
Both have just one UK keyboard which is en_gb.kbd
I only have the Qwerty layout available. _________________ Satnav:

@B33Jay
If you need any help with the Garmin file system and fully backing up all the files on your Garmin, just ask and we will 'hold your hand' and talk you through the process. |

Many thanks and apologies for time wasting.
I had just reached the conclusion that my memory is worse than I thought and the 2589 has only a QWERTY keyboard. I must have been recalling using the 2340 with ABCDE.
Checking my 2340 settings there is a choice of QWERTY or ABDCD and several youtube clip about setting up Garmin sat navs show that a similar choice exists on other models but not seen on the 2689 and 2789 models.
On checking the online 2589 manual it does not list a keyboard layout choice and you have now confirmed this is so. |
