In the US live traffic is now free via the smartphone app, previously they had to pay. Looks like Garmin are starting the new year with a bang _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Certainly sounds good.
Not sure the wifi is a bonus. Currently GE tells me if either of my devices have any updates, even without them being plugged in. By the sound of it these new devices do the same over wifi but still need to be plugged in to update.
What I would like is the option to turn the navigation voice off but keep the camera/poi voice. I did experiment with a silent voice pack some time back, and failed.
That way I could see the traffic for my whole route and act accordingly whilst not have it compete with the camera warnings.
Ps: I know someone who has just bought a 2699 in the last week and may be a bit peeved he had waited. _________________ Satnav:

The update is over your home wifi also ...
When a new update is available and you're on your wireless home network, you'll automatically receive an onscreen notification. That's your cue to plug your device into any outlet and let it update over Wi-Fi while it charges. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Interesting that (on the DriveLuxe at least) there are now 2 models - S for Smartlink traffic and - D for Digital traffic. Presumably the -S model is cheaper as it (presumably) won't have the built-in traffic model and will rely on data from the Smartlink app services.
Will be interesting to see how Garmin pitch these and why they added an extra model to the range when you can get digital traffic and Smartlink traffic ( if set up) on. The current -D model _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.70

Plus, if like me, your phone connects to your car handsfree system via bluetooth then it can't dual connect to the Garmin as well.
Or at least my HTC m9 can't dual connect, nor could my m7. _________________ Satnav:

But you could have it connected to the Garmin's hands free instead of the car. |

Seems the 2017 range now comes with TripAdvisor reviews built-in.
Here's more detail on the range from Garmin's US blog
https://www.garmin.com/en-US/blog/automotive/announcement-new-2017-garmin-drive-series/
and here from Garmin's UK site

My silent voice works just fine on my 2599.
I posted a year ago on here about it.
I can select the silent or the normal voice at will.
I could send you a copy if you like (783 kb).
