The comment re looking at your speedometer is anything but silly, the next time you are stuck in traffic as you drive through motorway roadworks with average speed cameras have a look at the tight bunching ... |
As I pointed out, that has absolutely nothing to do with speed limits but poor drivers, who would bunch at 30, 50, 80 whatever ... _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

quarryjmiller - Further to my post above asking you to not include unnecessary quotes, it crosses my mind that perhaps you don't know how to make a simple post without using the Quote button. Using the Reply button does NOT place a reply with the post, it simply makes a fresh post in the thread, so please use the Reply button, not the Quote button, as shown in this picture.

Quote: | just like the Police Commissioner for Bedfordshire threatening to switch the gantries to enforce the 70mph limit on his bit of motorway just 12 months ago (read the first article) this is about revenue - not road safety - at least he had the good grace to admit it. |
Unfortunately (for him) he hadn't got the authority to do it as LAs have no control over HA operated motorways. And his quoted intention probably lost him his post at election time. He is now ex-Police Commissioner
In relation to SMs, on the M1 south of J13, the cameras appear to be in operation at all times. My brother commutes Luton to Reading M1/M25/M4 on shifts so often travels very early or very late and sees the flashes caused by those passing in excess of 80 with no VSL showing |

Getting flashed when doing over 80, in my view, cannot be accused of being a revenue collection but a straightforward safety issue. _________________ Satnav:

Even on an empty motorway many drivers won't be in full control of their car, but I know you know that
Unfortunately it seems there are many motorists, including maybe some others contributing to this thread, who think they're fully capable of driving at speeds in excess of the NSL when their actual ability means they are both a danger to themselves and any other motorist they might meet. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

As a lot of you know I keep silly hours and I'm often posting at 04:30 or earlier sometimes.
Before I do my rounds I flick through the BBC teletext pages including the traffic and there are often blocked motorways being reported from an accident in the small hours. This will be when 'there is nothing around'. _________________ Satnav:
