I've got a 550 which is still working reasonably well but the cost of map updates/traffic etc is quite steep and newer units look attractive with lifetime maps.
Seeing some of the threads about 3rd party support and before I commit myself to a new device are there any of the current generation of TT units that support 3rd party POI's? |

Are you referring to place POIs or specifically PGPSW camera alerts? |

Thinking more specifically the PGPSW speed cams but others of interest too i.e. National Trust etc. |

I believe that the latest TomToms do POI as in NT etc, but only allow PGPSW cams as the same sort of 'you can navigate to them' with no proximity alert, so the cam database is only marginally more useful than a chocolate fire-guard on the latet TTs _________________ DashCam:

Well that means I'll be holding on to my current unit then. |

TT do have their own speed cam offering that some seem to find satisfactory though. _________________ DashCam:

Long time user of the PGPSW database which I find really reliable. Seem to recall others on here less than complimentary with the TT offering but I take your point.
Would be buying a new unit tomorrow if third party support was available. |

The advantage is all the user does is connect and sit back for the TT database to update itself with no action by the user. You don't get mobile sites, only "currently active mobile cameras", that is ones which have been reported by TT users. Supposedly put out over the air and held active for just a few hours. Pretty useless.
And the audible warnings are not a patch on PGPSW.
As for POIs in general, there is a substantial thread on the TT forum about them not displaying on screen. The requirement of those complaining is to display a set of POIs to be able to choose one. For example display all the NT sites around you so that you can pop in and visit one, or all the local ASDAs or Tesco, or anything. But the problem is apparently that the only way to get to one (of any POI set) is by knowing its name to navigate there. _________________ Dennis
