Does anyone know if PGPS cameras can be added to the poi's on the factory fitted nav unit on this car? (and how please).
Thanks |

I was just looking for the same info, although I'm 99% sure they can't.... but I'd be gladly corrected if they can
I was also looking for info on creating my own POI's.
I have CSV file with specific places on and by all accounts this needs to be in the format of GPX or KML for the system to recognise, upload and use.
So if there's anyone out there familiar with these file types I'd sure be obliged for some help. _________________ Steve

Unless someone with a Hyundai 2016 Tucson can come forward and answer definitively, you'll need to provide much more info!
Make and model of the Satnav? (It's unlikely to be made by Hyundai.)
A link to online documentation for it.

You're probably right, it may not be made by Hyundai.
Without ripping the radio out I won't know.... and I don't really want to do this on a 3 month old car... or put another way - I doubt I'll be allowed
It came with a very basic manual on the radio system - its a Navman sytem, and you can use TomToms Cameras and Traffic.
It does state that you can add your POI's using GPX/KLM format, it just doesn't tell you how (well not as far as as that manual goes) - I'm still reading the 600 page owners manual.
I know with my Qashqai I had to have it in folders called my POI etc so it may be the same.
So my first mission is to take my CSV file that I have (holiday destinations) and try to convert that to one of these formats and just see what happens when I install the USB.
If I have any luck with personal POI's I'll post back.
Regarding the SpeedCamera Database on here... if someone know if its available in one of these formats and can point it out then I'll gladly have a play to see if they show up.
In the meantime, I guess I'll just have to continue to Hotspot my phone to the in car WiFi and use TomToms Cameras and Traffic. _________________ Steve

The PocketGPSWorld camera database is available in most formats, including .asc, .csv, and .gpx. I'm not sure about .kml.
You need to find out as much about the how the unity takes the POI:
1. Does it take .BMP files so that icons show the POI on the map display?
2. Does it give proximity alerts when you approach? If so can it take .ogg or .wav audio files?
3. Can it use directional data?
4. How do you load the POIs and associated files? By USB stick or SD/MicroSD card?
If you can find online resources to your unit please post a link in this thread.

Thanks Privateer,
Only had the car a month so all very new and unknown.
Out of your 4 questions, two can be answered at this stage...
Proximity Alerts
If I have connected my phone to the car and use the TomTom Cameras, it does give these, whether it will work on "Own POI's" I have yet to test.
Loading POI's
This I believe is from a USB.
Fingers crossed on some online resources - its fairly new, but I'm going to see what the predecessor IX35 had and see if its the same. May be more info out there for that. _________________ Steve

Never had a vehicle with in-built SatNav, although if you can have a look at the actuatl unit (in the boot, glovebox, under seat, etc) it may have Hyundai and/or Tucson on the unit but it may also have another name and model number. Failing that, the Hyundai Tucson manual may tell you the unit's detail. Failing that as a last reort you could visit your nearest Hyundai dealer and ask them for help on the subject.
Once you know the SatNav make and model (it it likely to be used in other cars than just the Hyundai Tucson) try Googling for it with the words third party POI and variation of that theme.
Builtin SatNavs have been around for a long time now and many are getting the ability to allow users to add their own third party POIs. I would certainly expect this as the minimum and likely proximity alerts too. Often you'll also get directional alerts so fingers crossed.

I have tried to add to my Hyundai but the sat nav wont even read the GPX files to import them.
Anyone else had any luck or is there another gpx version i can try? |

What leads you to suspect that GPX is the right file format? |

GPX is the format i have to use for all my own POI for the nav system in the Hyundai so i was going to try the same method for the Speed Cameras.
I know i would not get an alert but at least i would get a visible warning. |

Ah, I see.
What info is in your POI .GPX files, and how does that compare with the PGPSW file? We may be able to find a file with the right data (or modify one) then convert it to .GPX. |

Honestly have no idea. I cant view GPX files on my computer.
I created them by making ov2 files on a tomtom then using an online OV2 to GPX converter
http://www.poieditor.com/poi_convert/ov2-to-gpx/
I think they cannot have much info in as i had tried to convert a CSV file to GPX (from my contacts directory) and that didnt work either. |

I have just compared the 2 gpx files (my own POI compared to the downloaded database.
This is an example of whats in mine
lat="51.16914" lon="-0.77528"
name - Frensham little pond
compared to this in the downloaded version
lat="50.xxxxx" lon="-2.xxxxx"
name-30-G-2
desc-PocketGPSWorld-desc
sym-Navaid, Black-sym
extensions
gpxx-WaypointExtension xmlns:gpxx"xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" xmlns:xsi"xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" xsi:schemaLocation"xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
gpxx:DisplayMode-SymbolAndName-gpxx:DisplayMode
gpxx:Categories-gpxx:Category-Category 1-gpxx:Category
gpxx:Categories
gpxx:WaypointExtension
extensions
(heavily edited to remove all html)
So mine is a much simpler version with only lat/long and name.
Is it possible to download a GPX version of the database with only that info on any of the current choices?
PS. Hope it was OK to share this extract which i edited so no location was possible from it. |

I have a Hynundai Tuscon 2016. The Sat Nav is Tomtom, and is supplied with 7 years of Traffic ,speed cameras , local search and weather. You can import and export POI to/from USB.
It saves them in a favourites.bin file.
There are some notes on Tomtom pages

Ah yes, but that assumes that you have a data allowance on your phone. In all the glossy blurb that Hyudai put out, and the salesmans chatter, never were the words "mobile phone required" mentioned. I think that the head unit is Panasonic and the map data is on the removable SD card. Personal poi's are added via usb but go into a (limited) storage location, which is not on the card. I know this because I have just had my SD card "software upgraded" by Hyundai technicians, which has resulted in me having no map, no nav, and all my destination history deleted. But the poi's I added are still in the list (they never showed up anyway!). I am still waiting for a new card to be delivered.
I think that the way to add PGPSW files will be using the SD card, but I dont have the skills required. |
