As a newbie to this forum could anyone assist with layman's fix for the following;
1. Downloaded 2017.10 no problem, previous CN 2016.30 which showed speed limits in Cyprus when I use it there. I had a OSM map loaded for Cyprus also.
2. Now the speed limits do not show?
3. Saving the speed limit as is possible on this device, it does not save?
4. Now my 2016.30 map saved on my laptop, mapsource or basecamp says its locked and I cannot unlock it even though I copied the unlock from my Garmin account, anyone assist with that?
Sorry for asking so many questions in this post, I have spent 3 days solid trying to resolve this through reading various forums etc but no success.
I even deleted all the map image files from the Nuvi but GE still says I have the 2017 map installed, pressing "where to" says no map data installed.
I am very confused how GE can says its still installed. Any help appreciated please, thanks for taking the time to read my question. |

GE will tell you it's installed once you've installed it. It can't check it's been deleted by you. To reinstall the map select the reinstall option in Express.
As for the speed limits not showing, after any update if your device doesn't work as expected you should do a master reset. Having said that I've checked on my nuvi and it's not showing speed limits in Cyprus either so I suspect it's a map error. Your best bet is to point this out to Garmin.
If where to isn't working check that the map is enabled? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way.

So are we saying the 2017.10 has a speed sign/limit bug ? _________________ Satnav:

Not generally as far as I can tell but it seems so in Cyprus. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

The previous map CN2016.30 showed the speed limits no problem, since the updated map they do not show now.
Why they wont save when manually input is another problem.v |

If you're in UK call the Garmin free phone number. Note the first thing they'll ask is have you tried a master reset so worth doing that first. It won't deal with the map error though but may resolve the fact that inputting speed limits isn't being saved. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

How can I check if it has speed limits without actually being in the country, can you tell me how to do it?
I tried a master reset by going settings,3bars,restore, is that the way to do it?
Thanks for taking the time to reply, appreciated. I was going to get the camera alert database from here but I am now worried about actually installing it, I know Cyprus does not yet have speed cameras, except in Northern Cyprus where they are very active, but I am travelling to UK soon and need them for there. I wanted to try this database rather than pay Garmin but there install seems easier. |

You can check speed limits anywhere by putting your nuvi into simulation mode and running a route in whichever country you want. I guess from your comments you're not in UK but the speed limits show here perfectly well with 2017.10.
Note the speed camera database runs completely independently from the map, indeed it would work even if you had no map installed. To do the basic installation isn't complicated, although I agree it's more complicated than Garmin's own one.
Master reset instructions are here

Thanks again, I followed those instructions yesterday but didn't do anything to reset to factory fresh.
What is strange is the map I just re-loaded is as follows;
CN Europe NTU 2017.10 TIRANE,SHQIPERIA,GRAZ,OSTERREICH,SANKT POLTEN,
A very strange name for a map I think, when it should be CN Europe NTU 2017.10 Western Europe which is what the one saved on my laptop says it is.
I tried a route simulation as you suggested but there are no speed limits being shown on the route in the UK, guess my Garmin has given up or got screwed up |

In that case do a master reset since speed limits certainly show on mine here.
How did you load the map to your nuvi? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I used MapInstall programme but I am going to try to re-install using GE it just takes so long to download and install. |

That's why it's renamed that way then, MapInstall does that. Note it's not a good idea to use MapInstall as that doesn't install things like junction view etc.
If you've installed it once then the reinstall should be much quicker, as the files installed by Garmin Express that are used to compile the map that's sent to your nuvi will still be there, unless you've deleted them, so all that will be needed is for Express to compile the map from data already on your PC. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I am just installing the UK portion with GE, could Basecamp be another way to load maps although BC reports my 2016.30 map as locked and cannot unlock it.
I will re-download all the map when in the UK where BB speeds are much quicker.
I have a OSM Cyprus map I am going to try using to see what that does, I will load that as a supplementary map if there is enough room.
If I delete the garmindevice.xml will it create another one automatically? I have read that could be causing the issue with errors in it.7
Thanks for all your time and advice its really appreciated. |
