|
|
Hi
My NuviCam has started playing up since I installed v3.10 of the software some weeks ago. The video is scrambled on playback.
A system reset clears it, but it returns after about 5-7 days.
I contacted Garmin Support and they suggested a re-installation of the latest software update; but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this with Garmin Express. I've also tried Googling but to no avail.
Anyone know how to do this please? |

Not sure what they could mean by that since AFAIK you can't easily force a nuvi to reinstall software. What you can do is to revert to an earlier version, then you can update again. Did the Garmin rep not explain what they meant? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

No, it was a response to an email. They just said to re-install it, even though GE insists it's already installed.
How would I go about uninstalling 3.10 then? |

Ahh, the email said Web Updater, not GE. Just trying it now. |

Web Updater shows the NuviCam in it's 'Devices Found' screen, but when it comes to update it, it says it can't find it.

Did you ever back up your nuvicam? If so you can revert to the firmware you had when you backed it up, let me know if you did and I'll explain how. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I've connected to Garmin Express, gone to Tools | Restore Backup and I find I have three of them in there:
19/12/2015
11/11/2015

Sorry but that's not the back up of your device, simply your user data like favourites. Did you do a full backup of your device by copying all the files to your PC somewhere? I suspect the answer is no
Not a problem though, previous software can be found here http://www.gawisp.com/perry/nuvi/
Download the 3.00 version, then rename it from nuvicam_300.gcd to GUPDATE.gcd and place it in the system folder on your nuvicam. You should find another file of the same name there, delete that one as it will be the 3.10 software.
When you switch on you'll be prompted that you're installing an older software version so just accept yes.
Note this will probably delete all your user data so back it up first. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Thanks for your help so far Sussamb, but it's not going well.
I can't find the 'system' folder on the nuviCam. I can see a Garmin directory, but there's only a single XML file in there.
In the meantime I've had another email from Garmin and they suggest a Master reset, which involves pressing the lower RH corner of the display when the first copyright screen appears - I can't get that to work either.

The .system folder is a hidden folder using the default Folder View Options in Windows. In order to see the .system folder on your Nuvi you need to make Folder View Option changes in Windows as follows:
Windows 8 and 10:
1) Open the Control Panel. (Right click on the Windows square in the bottom left of your computer screen. Select Control Panel and click on it.)
2) Inside Control Panel, click on "Appearance and Personalization", then "Folder Options" or “File Explorer Options". This will open the File Explorer Options window.
3) Inside the File Explorer Options window, click on the "view" tab.
Select "Show hidden files, folders, and drives"
Remove check mark for “Hide Empty Drives”
Remove check mark for “Hide protected operating system files” (Recommended)”
Windows 7:
1) Open Windows Explorer and select Organise, Folder and Search Options
2) Click the View tab.
3) Uncheck ‘Hide protected operating system files.
4) Check ‘Show hidden files, folders and drives’
In addition, since your Nuvi's storage is protected by using Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) by default you may also need to change your device to the more common Mass Storage mode in order for the .system folder to be visible in Windows. You can make this change on your Nuvi by following these procedures:
1. Bring up the volume screen on the GPS.
2. On the upper right hand corner. Press your finger on screen and hold for appx 10 seconds.
3. Shortly you will see the developers screen.
4. Find MTP Settings and touch it.
5. It will show 3 selections. MTP Auto Detect,Mass Storage and Mass Storage Single Session.
6. Touch Mass Storage as your selection.
7. Select save.
The full procedure for a master reset is here:

Thank you so much. That all worked perfectly.
Now, do I plug in GE and bring the unit up-to-date software wise? |

I did. Garmin were advising me to re-install v3.10 though. |
