Hi,
I have TT3 BT with and Ipaq 5550 and most people who get in my car are usually impressed with it (as am I).
Have recently been asked about the TT GO, which to be fair I really cant comment on having never owned or used one. The questions that are being asked are:
- Can you get maps for Europe, UK and the US?
I've had a look and from what I see the US maps arent available at present. Is this still the case and if so does TomTom have a date that they will provide them OR is it possible to buy US maps for TT3 and put them on SD ram to work in TT GO? OR is it worth buying the US version of TT Go and then buying the European MAPS? ie is there a way around it at present? Suggestions are more than welcome!!
I read somewhere that TT had a copyright problem with the maps. Does anyone know if this is true??
Ultimately, what is the best, easiest, cheapest solution for someone who is a GPS beginner and wants UK, Europe and US maps??
Your input would be greatly appreciated!!
thanks

You cannot buy the maps for the US as yet but you can buy map packs for Europe.
You could buy the unit in the US and then add the European maps you require. I would hope that TomTom make the US maps available seperately soon but have no confirmation of this.
You cannot use maps from TT3 on the GO. I'm not aware of any copyright issues with the maps, where did you hear this? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks Darren
I read about the copyright issue on a forum somewhere (not this one) - will see if I can find it again. I also read that the US Maps would be out in mid-October but I am a little sceptical about that since TomTom themselves have made no announcement on their website.
Obviously, if I buy them the US version I am going to get slapped with duty getting it imported into the UK. Any idea what the duty would be on these things?
Also I believe that the US version comes with maps on CD rather than on SD ram. Can you confirm this?
I've read stuff that says 1GB SD Ram cards are not recommended because they slow the maps down. I have a 500MB card in my ipaq with no noticable speed degredation. If I got a 1GB card for the GO to put the US maps on, do you think it would cause an issue??
Thanks for your help!! |

I'll have to bow to the other team members who have a GO unit here as this is outside my knowledge! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Funny enough you get used to it.
When I first started using it, I ran an earphone from the pda and did it that way but now (using it for about 6 months) I dont have a problem hearing it without the earphone and I generally have music on as well. I dont think I have used the earphone since about the second week.
I think you just tune into the sound in the end. |
