Hi,

Just when I was sure, well almost, that I should buy the Mio 168 with co-pilot 5 at £399 I see an ad in today's Daily Mail that Toys R Us are offering the same machine with Marco Polo for £299. I have not seen any reviews for Marco Polo. I really don't know which decision to make. A friend has got a Navman but on occasions the voice promts seem to conflict with the screen directions so I have discounted this. I am also aware that the same machine is available with Tomtom , Destinator and probably others. I will be using it in the UK only but would also be great if lost whilst walking around city centres.
Thanks for any advice.

Globalpositioningsystems.co.uk have it for about the same including delivery and you will get better support if needed from them.

TT or Co pilot are pretty damn good but I think co pilot wins the race for map and funtionality, just.

Read the review in the Co Pilot forum

Thanks for that Topgaza,

As you say Copilot review looks pretty good and highly rated, but I'm wondering if Marco Polo is as good and save myself a 100 quid.

Any thoughts on Marco Polo?

Well, I think his mints are overated but he did do some great maps of China!

Oh, the software?

Not sure of its popularity its Falk Navigation software rebadged. Not sure about that either. Anyone?

Thanks Topgazza,

I like your sense of humour, I quite like the mints but hope the software is not full of holes.

I have decided to trundle of to Toys R Us next week as after a phone call to them they said thay can give me a full demo. I figure it must be worth the 60 mile round trip to get the facts. Just hope I don't get lost trying to find the store.

Oddly enough you can buy the "holes" but I know what you mean. Post back when you have seen it. Its quite well known in Germany and I presume they use similar sources for maps as others. Interesting......

The Mio 186 has built in rechargable battery which appears not to be replaceable. As batteries don't last for ever I assume it would need to be replaced in a few years. In this event can the battery be replaced or is that the end of the machine.
If it can be replaced can the owner install it or is manufacturer installed.

Thanks

Not sure but the iPod battery is manufacturer only and the same process but already you can buy replacement batteries and instructions on how to install from 3rd party sources.

Hi all,

Went to Toys R Us , very helpful staff who even let me take thier display model of the Mitac 168 with Marco Polo software for a spin round the block with a sales assistant. It certainly seemed ok and got me to a local address and back to the shop.

I was very tempted to buy, but alas none in stock, so I decided to buy from Evesham (arrived yesterday) with copilot 5 as thje reviews on this site rated it and I have seen very little, if any for Marco Polo.

You can never be sure how well something performs at a shop so I am very grateful to the reviews and comments on this site as so far I am very pleased with what I have got.

I understand that it should warn me of GATSO's but is not doing so. Does any know how I can achieve this?

Thanks

CoPilot now includes the pocketgps_uk database so you will need to enable POI alerts from the Options mode accessed from the Tools menu.

Once POI alerts is enabled select the POIs you want to be alerted to from the list.
