The power from a USB is only a trickle charge. When in full navigation mode my guess is that it's using more than it's charging.
Plus, as mentioned, it often gets confused whether it's in a car or connected to a computer. _________________ DashCam:

Thanks for that
I did realise that it was only a trickle charge as the main power lead is 12 volts. BUt in my personal case I had no other choice as I needed the Satnav and the only way that I could use it was by using the usb lead which didn't keep shutting down!!. Hopefully when they finally manage to sort out the software I will have a fully functioned satnav which is fit for purpose!!!! |

I think unless you can find a way to get a proper Garmin 12v to 5v TA cable hooked up you will probably continue to have issues. _________________ DashCam:

It is in Garmin corner now, If they can't resolve it in a reasonable time, then I will get my money back and go back to a TomTom, although I quite like the 2699. |

Just been on the phone to Garmin Support and this what they have had to say.
The problem is the updated software which is V7.80 (also could me the maps too ) they had thought this would have fixed it but it hasn't.
This is very big problem in that there are loads of people with the same problem as me with the unit shutting down after a few minutes , She told me that they have sent the files which I had sent them plus all the others to the software team in the US.
I asked them when could I expect a fix and was told that they have got no idea but it would be days opposed to weeks, ( I hope ) Not sure what I am going to do as I quite it but surely they should have recalled all the unit and take them of the shelves if they are not fit for purpose!!! |

I can't understand why the 2599 is OK but the 2699 is having issues?
Just a larger screen ! _________________ DashCam:

Me neither. Indeed the software is common to numerous devices. Sometimes Garmin customer support get it wrong _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I'll have a look on the unit tomorrow to see what it reveals.
It's out in the garage and it's dark now _________________ DashCam:

They might well have but I doubt even they could get the number of other people wrong, I can only repeat what not just one of them but different support people have told me |

Well, my 2599LMT-D switched off and rebooted several times on Saturday in Liverpool city centre. It wouldn't stay switched on. I was using the 12v mains/antennae lead and had it plugged in.
In the end I had to switch off manually and input the destination postcode again. I was holding the power key down for so long at the lights I may have inadvertently done a 'soft reset' but I can't be sure.
If I recall, it has switched itself off once before in the few weeks I've had it.
Was a bit disconcerting really. |
