A set of average speed cameras have been installed on the A15 between Lincoln and Sleaford, reportedly one of Lincolnshire’s busiest and most dangerous roads. It will replace the former fixed speed cameras at a cost of approximately £85,000.
Following four weeks of testing, the new system will come into operation from Monday, September 21st.
A spokesman for Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership, said: "Despite engineering changes in layout, road marking and signage over the last five years, there have been seven serious injuries and 24 slight injuries at this site."
He added "All of our information and analysis points to the fact that motorists tend to comply more with average speed cameras than anything else. The A52 average speed camera system, installed nearly five years ago near Ropsley, has seen a reduction of over 57% in collisions and over 70% reduction in casualties since going live and our expectation is that similar results will follow.”

Looking like this could be a national change then what with West London as well. Personally I'm in favour as driving standards have deteriorated. _________________ DashCam:

If driving standards have deteriorated, then surely the best response would be increased driver training and mandatory retesting, rather than using revenue-generating technology to enforce an arbitrary speed limit that has very little to do with road safety. _________________ Philip |

I've been driving over 45 years and I can remember when courtesy for example existed.
I'm in a particularly bad area where it's normal for many to race up to gatsos, hit the brakes hard, then accelerate away, under and overtaking. Speed limits mean nothing.
Training would make no difference with the stunts they pull. They had training once, satisfied an examiner then ignored it.
Average speed on notorious roads can only be a good thing surely. _________________ DashCam:

Rants about revenue raising are old hat, which most of us already accept and have stopped ranting about it a long time ago as it makes no difference to the behaviour of local councils and their stupid road safety partnerships |
