I'm wondering old stock?
The TA cables, that have no 'blob' for connecting a separate antenna, have been around at least 18 months.
The TA cables are compatible with the units that have the receiver inside the head unit. With the separate antenna models the receiver is in the 'blob' as far as I know. _________________ Satnav:

My thoughts exactly
But it may be the 3598 doesn't have the internal receiver _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

just rang Garmin UK in Southampton
the man checked my serial number and said it is a new latest unit, the traffic is built in, but he confirmed it does need the thick cable, the additional antenna with suction cups is to be used as an option (weird?) _________________ Garmin 3598 LMT-D

Well I hate to disagree but if you've got the GTM70 you either don't have the receiver built in or you've also been given the GTM70 when you don't need it.
You can check if you go to (on your nuvi) Settings, Device, About ...
Third/fourth line down depending on model will say (as it does on mine) 'Built in traffic receiver: Yes' _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

rung Garmin again, every single 3598 device ever made NEEDS the GTM70, unless anyone can prove otherwise, I went to settings, then traffic and it says "compatible accessory required" _________________ Garmin 3598 LMT-D

What about where I said
Settings, Device, About ...
Seems very strange that a top of the line satnav doesn't have the receiver built in yet the digital traffic 25xx series does? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Garmin says mine is a 3598 and latest model, so no idea what's going on _________________ Garmin 3598 LMT-D

Yours is exactly the same as mine. Agreed it all looks abit unsightly, but I've got used to using it now so I'm not at all worried about it. I still dont understand the need for the little thin antenna though as it does work without it. |

Mr Sussamb! you had me all worried! !!
I've been about to fly back to halfords and get my money back off Them
very strange how top of the range unit doesn't have it built in
and yeah, that extra antenna with suction cups is a pain, but it's only optional to use it (according to Garmin) _________________ Garmin 3598 LMT-D

You possibly need it in weak signal areas. |

Hi
All is good with your 3598. If your serial number is 39Q040XXX then you have the latest batch in Halfords as was manufactured in Taiwan circa October 2014. You can check exact data looking at some of the hidden system files. I'd also guess you have the Speed Cams as of 11th June 2014 (Device/About/Speed Cams).
The 3598 comes with a GTM70 which is the last receiver Garmin did with the external receiver (this model was launched in March 2013 and Garmin have not produced another Prestige/Premium range model since) and an antenna.
You don't actually need the antenna if it annoys you that much but it does help reception. The antenna doesn't need to run along the window or dashboard as my is taped down the central control on the passenger out of sight but the reception is fine.
BTW - I'd edit your post so you don't display the fully serial number of your unit. _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.70
