I recently returned from Brisbane, Australia (3 months) visiting my daughter, whilst over there i purchased an older model Garmin Nuvi 40 for a good price as i hired a car and wanted to do some exploring. The unit came with "lifetime map updates," i did not have access to the internet so i could not log onto the "update" site, however the maps pre loaded were not that much out of date. Back in the UK i tried to register the Garmin with the reg code printed on the box, but for some reason it will not let me have free map updates as it has "expired."
I have e-mailed Garmin but they did not bother to respond to both my e-mails i sent them. I am just about to purchase a new navigation unit for the UK so Garmin is most deffo on the "don't bother list!!"javascript:emoticon('')[/b] _________________ Trevor S |

Lifetime map updates don't 'expire' although if you bought an Australian model with Aus maps the map update only applies to the original maps, it won't allow you to load UK maps if that's what you were hoping?
Detail is here:
http://www.garmin.com/en-GB/legal/lmdisclaimer
and the relevant bit is:
Unless otherwise stated, the updates you receive under the subscription will be updates to the same geographic area included with your Garmin product when originally purchased. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Yes I was trying to update "Australia" maps, will not let me do it despite "Lifetime" being written on the box it came in!!! Do I have to update the device in Australia? I think NO. _________________ Trevor S |

Shouldn't need to ... is it registered with myGarmin? Check the myMaps tab and see what it says, just to confirm it has lifetime maps. The only reason I can think why you would get an 'expired' message is the 90 day update.
If you definitely have lifetime maps give Garmin a call (free) on 0808 238 0000 _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |
