While you can't transfer maps from your nuvi there are lots of OSM maps available for Garmin devices. I use lots of them and for some uses they're superior to Garmin mapping. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

looking around the garmin discovery 1:50 seems to be the best visual quality on the device...do any of you free links above come near this quality. its for cycling mainly and my eyes sight not that great due to diabetes... |

The problem with the Discoverer maps is that they are raster maps, in other words scanned copies of paper maps. Zoom in too far and they become blurry.
So I guess it will depend on how far you intend to zoom in? Here are some screen shots of the various OSM maps. They are vector maps so retain their sharpness as you zoom in/out:

I have the Garmin Discoverer 1:50k on my Oregon (in front of me now).
It is true that if you zoom in too far, it gets a little blurry. But that is only at the most extreme levels of zoom.
I have zoomed in until all I can see on the screen is the word "Llyn" of Llyn Ogwen, and it is still perfectly legible when panning around.

I may have mislead you ... those screen shots are not of maps zoomed in as far as possible, and yes, you do have to zoom in a fair way to blur the OS maps ... but it really depends on whether you'll need that zoom.
The point of showing the maps was to show the detail that is available on the OSM maps ... so the OP can decide whether to go for free OSM maps or paid for OS Discoverer mapping. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Third map is the free map from http://www.talkytoaster.co.uk and the first from http://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de/en/index.html
I'm not sure about the Edge, but you can use Basecamp to transfer routes to my Etrex 20. Routing though (as in car routing) can be a bit hit and miss on OSM maps with some better than others. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Here's what I mean, took these during my walk today. This is the OS map at 200 feet
and here an OSM map at 200 feet
Both are screen shots of my Montana screen, which is larger than the Oregon screen. To me the OS map is 'blurred' and I certainly wouldn't want to zoom in any further. The OSM stays sharp even if you zoom down to 50 feet. All really depends on how far eddieo would like to be able to zoom in. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |
