I have just read on the RAC site:
If you have a GPS navigation system that shows you where any fixed speed cameras are, you must deactivate this function
http://www.rac.co.uk/travel/driving-abroad/countries/ireland
Can anyone confirm the accuracy of this statement?
And maybe when it was introduced? |

I may be wrong, but I don't think that's correct.
There is an awful lot of mis-information about this issue...
For example, if you were to believe this article in the Daily Mirror, you'd think they were illegal in every European country except Hungary and the UK!
TomTom have obviously had to do a lot of research on the subject (witness how much effort they put into creating an alternative "Danger zones" system for France). Their website has a summary here that was last updated in June, and it doesn't mention Ireland. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

In addition to the above, the Irish police publish the locations of the fixed speed cameras on THEIR OWN website (here).
There's no difference between a SatNav warning you or having a person in the passenger seat with the Guarda's website and a whistle, so I don't see how SatNav warnings can be illegal.
Radar or laser detectors and/or jammers... now that's a different story. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Thanks Guys for the replies, you have confirmed my existing doubts.
Hopefully I might even be able to add a few to this database of any I locate that are not in the database. |

Hi
I've just read that article as well and was concerned about an upcoming trip over there.
Another web site article stated that it was only radar detection devices. Maybe that was the confusion?
Makes more sense as the article added that there were very few static cameras, more mobile sites
Anyway I'll take my chance, although if the roads are the same as last time I was there, speeding won't be an option _________________ Garmin nuvi 2595LMT
