Hi Guys
This is my first post and my first day as the owner of a ipaq 4150.
The problem I have is that I can not connect during the setup of the active sync software.
I installed the software and then connect the PDA when requested but it just says connecting....and never actually connects.
I have tried doing a system restore and reinstalling the software but nothing works.
I am using active sync 3.7.1 and am running windows xp pro.
Is there anything anyone can advise
Thanks

This is a known problem and one I see from time to time. Eventually if you leave the PPC in the cradle it will eventually time out.
This can be down to using USB 1.1, or using USB 2 with other USB 1.1 devices on the chain. It can also have something to do with having too many contacts, calendar, task and emails that you are trying to sync or even too many files in the my documents directory.
An easy fix usually is to undock, make sure the ActiveSync logo goes grey. Then soft reset the iPAQ and try to sync again. Most of the time this resolves it. If it doesn't, do the same process but also terminate the ActiveSync process (WCESCOMM.EXE), re-run the ActiveSync icon from the Start Menu and try docking (after you have soft reset the iPAQ).
If that fails, usually a restart of PC and Soft Reset of iPAQ will resolve this. If that still doesn't, then you are best to delete the partnership and re-create the partnership from scratch as there is an issue somewhere in the partnership data. |

Hi Dave
I tried what you said.
I removed all files from my documents
Archived my emails
no tasks/calander or contacts to worry about
Did soft reset
then terminated activesync process
then did a complete restart (twice)
How do you delete a partnership as I don't think I 've managed to create one of those yet
any other ideas what it can be.
am running usb2 ports. |

I had the same problem, solution was easy after someone on this forum told me, remove Zone Labs firewall. Hope that helps. |

its been trying to connect for 3 hours (I went out and left it)
I have a firewall on my router would that affect it?
any other ideas on how to get it to connect...? |

Well I must say that I run ZoneAlarm on my 3 Laptops here and 1 PC and have never had a problem. You will ONLY be getting this problem if you have denied access to the ActiveSync program and have blocked it both as an application and as a server application. |

riktaylor,
fyi
even if you don't have zone alarm running the vector control will still run in the background the only way to stop it is to uninstalling. |
