Hi
After all this time I have finally bought a smartphone, I have installed cameralert & it appears to be working with Navigon. When I update the camera database is it installed on the SD card or in the phone?. I like to keep backups just incase & was wondering where it is so I can back it up.
Thanks
Andy

When I had my old WildFire I initially installed the app on the card but it suffered performance problems. Moved it back to the phone and it was fine.

No such problems on the HTC One as that has no card or slot. Doesn't need it as it has 32Gb onboard Very Happy

It depends on where you have the app installed. It will update into the same location as the app.

This phone is a phicomm & only has a small amount of internal memory. I moved cameralert through android onto the 32gb SD card. I have had a look but cant see a Cameralert folder on there. Is it named something else?
Thanks
Andy

Can't see a folder on my GA S3 either, but I know it's on the phone not on my external SD. You are looking on "external SD" not just "SD card" aren't you?

It may be a hidden file/folder. Do your searches with "Show hidden files" selected.
If it still not easy to detect, do a fresh download of the database and search for recently modified files in the date column.

It's none of my business I know but I don't really understand why you would need a backup of the CA app database. Backing up your phone completely - yes, but just the app database Question

Edited to sound better (I hope).

I can build a computer & I can back it up.
This android smart phone I cant get my head around at the moment.
So I was backing up my sd card onto my computer & noticed I couldnt see cameralert & was wondering if I was actualy backing it up or not.
It doesnt seam straight forward as backing up a computer.
I have show hidden files on my computer but cant see anything (on the phone that is)

This may be wrong information but I think I remember hidden .com folders being involved.
Sorry if this proves to be a RedHerring.

Pretty certain it's in Android\com.pocketgpsworld.cameralert

However, I'm not sure you really need to back the app up anyway? If the phone is ever replaced you can just re-download it from the market... Although even that may not be necesary if you have your google account set to back up on their servers?

Hmm
just found this at the end of the manual:-

Unpack the sound files in the attached ZIP to the
/Android/data/com.pocketgpsworld.cameralert/files/ folder on the external storage (i.e. the SD card). If that folder doesn’t exist yet you will need to
create it.
This doesnt exist, if I create it will it read these sound files in the App?

Sorry, I no longer understand what you are trying to achieve.
Did you manage to find the database files and back them up? Are you now talking about importing the voice files into Navigon? or into the CA Android app.
If it into the CA app, you may well be the pioneer with this so let us know how you get on.

Welcome to Android World. In the meantime use a BackUp app (Titanium Free, etc.). I'm sure it shall start making more sense the more you dabble with it.

Jeez Ali. That's providing that you can get your head round Titanium. I find it complex and not at all easy and I'm not exactly a computer numpty.

Agreed, there is an awful lot to it that I don't understand but it has saved my bacon more than once. Thankfully.
