My trusty Go730 seems to be coming to them end of its life and so, before it does, I thought I had better research a replacement!
I would prefer it to be a ToTom - but this is not imperative
What I want must have the ability for me to set up my own POIs, use PGPSW speed cameras and voices, live traffic and will reset for night levels of light.
A bonus would be that there is a Brodit connection for this model _________________ Furry Fred

My personal favourites:
GO940 - hard to find but I like the mp3 player
GO550/750/950 - Just the same but no mp3 player
Or from the newer models a
GO1000 (but check it has a micro SD card slot - most didn't)

All things are relative..... I only meant that the 1000/1005 was better than the VIAs or STARTS or especially anything newer!
I would have loved to offer some other (even older) models, but I was thinking of what the OP might reasonably be able to find in shops or on-line. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Yes, as for all things being relative, I bought the 1005 as a short stop when I had misgivings about the new thing built in to my new van, Renault R-Link, TomTom satnav. Which hasn't worked properly since I got it - 1st August last year - and has now been in the dealership since last Monday 8am (24th Feb) for them to make it work. Last time they had it for a week (as opposed to several occasions of the odd day or two), they cured it by retro-fitting an older map, v900, older than the one it came with, v905 (except that they didn't cure ANYTHING!). One fault I have is that I still haven't received Latest Map Guarantee - valid for 60 days from new but still not achieved. It took them until Wednesday to supposedly get the bluetooth working ("by a software download" - ???), but until Thursday to ask me for my account ID and password to look into the other nine faults (y'know, fiddly things like won't navigate to house numbers greater than 100 and won't connect to the HD traffic server).
Anyway, yes, relative. At least with the 1005 I got myself a better one than the 400/500/600 etc range and the built in thing. But I still use my 550 and may even go back to my 520! _________________ Dennis

As do I.
As you know, I've got/had access to quite a few models, old and new.
But my unit of choice (the one that's always on the dash) is a 940 and the wife's is a 950.
The 1005 often comes along for long rides too, as my 940 is getting a bit crap at receiving Live Traffic sometimes these days.
Currently the newest model is just an "entertainment piece" _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

It's kind of fun to watch it doing what it does, but for my uses it's not a serious navigation aid. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |
