Ability to add own POIs is coming (soon) and these units are now in stock at TomTom, Currys and Halfords - with more stocks arriving at retailers mid-month
Go and have a play and make up your own mind... they give clearer directions and better routing than anything else on the market today. But don't (yet) feature much in the way of customisation. And TT never plan them to be feature rich, even long term, more superb at the core features _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600

Why can't I upload my own, custom POI database?
With the new Quick Search we decided to make finding any address or POI, which comes with the product, as easy as possible. At the moment you cannot add your own POIs to this Quick Search. We are aware of the desire and need and also have other, strong reasons to start supporting this.

Greetings,
Initially, I struggled with my 6000. A few minutes "fiddling" saw meaningful results, and a route planned. But compared to my Go 940, it is a VERY limited device. It could be that I have yet to find my way around it, but for an example, seeking an alternative route (to avoid a town, for example) is not obvious. I use that all the time on my 940. I am hoping that roadblocks will be catered for by the live services, but I frequently travel through quiet country roads where live services may not connect.
I cannot find a way to select different screen colours either. I know POIs can't be loaded, and that is not good regarding the speed camera database. All in all, I have a very strong feeling that I have made a MAJOR mistake. This looks like an entry level PND, with a big screen, and questionable "always connected" services. (which worked to set up the speed camera trial, but now cannot connect.
I would be very wary of buying one of these units, seek more reviews first. For me, it looks like a £300 disaster. I have a feeling I will dispose of it, and get live services back on the 940. At least that was not an entry level device.
If Tomtom have rushed this out, and are working on adding back the features they stripped out, it will be a major marketing mistake. I bought it thinking it would do what all my previous Tomtoms have done. i.e. been an improvement on the last one. Its not, it is a major downgrade.
No handsfree phone.
Limited help
Screen colours fixed
No avoiding roadblocks or part of route.
Search facility next to useless, I looked for things that my 940 found on live services, this cannot find them.
No FM radio transmitter for music in the car.
No means to set my own car icon
No means to set my own "splash screen"
No means to set my own warning message (record your own)
No means to set distances to cameras (for warnings)
No useful info on screen. (Direction, times etc).
I did use these facilities on the 940, and more.
It is like I have got access to the limited menus, and have yet to find how to access the other items. If that is the case, black mark TomTom, as if it is there, I can't find it.
Sorry to be so negative, and your milage may vary.
I can only say "avoid like the plague". It is AWFUL!!!!

I am toying with getting a GO 6000 and looked at one today. It was, however, the only one in stock and the young spotty lad offered to go ask his manager if he could open the box, but I said NO, because if it doesn't do what I want, I won't be buying it and you'll have an opened box on your hands.
I am somewhat attracted to it by the lifetime maps and lifetime HD Traffic, because my new van's built in TomTom unit can only be updated by proprietary Renault App Store and at those sort of prices - 150% above TT prices - a year's worth of maps and HD Traffic from Renault is worth a new 6000 with lifetime both.
BUT it MUSt be able to "Prepare Route" and also allow me to "Browse Route".
Does it please?
(That's Prepare Route on one menu, then during any route, press bottom right corner and Details and Browse route).
I already have a GO720 and GO550 Live, both of which do this, but the 720 maps are getting long in the tooth and the 550 takes ages and ages to calculate routes and display the map. Hmm, I wonder how the iPhone TT App performs in those respects? _________________ Dennis

Hi,
Like my 940, previous routes were available. So you could prepare a route, and then cancel it for something else, then later go back to the first one.
I saw no way of browsing a route, although a route demo is available. (Never used that on the 940 either, I guess it must have been popular for them to keep it).
Just made a small trip. The night time colours are really bland, worse than the daytime ones. I REALLY do regret the purchase, don't get one, or you are likely to feel "short-changed" as well. I reckon 3/4 of the 940's functionality has gone. The maps are odd, as well. I just travelled up a small road (two way) that runs alonside the motorway. Most of the screen seemed to be taken up with the motorway and associated junction. Despite the bigger screen, "my" road was a lot thinner...
There are "upsides". It seems to lock on to the satellites quicker, and the display is less "jerky" than the 940. I don't have any doubt about it, the 940 is a far superior machine, and if you just want a PND with a big screen, I have seen a new one for just under £46 on ebay. Obviously no traffic etc, but POIs are supported, and it looks like it has more functionality than this offering :-(
I don't want to send it back, but I am thinking that the distance selling regs allow me to, and it really is very poor.

Thanks for that Stan. I think some of those are less used, and some better done elsewhere (hands free phone and FM transmitter for example are much better via my Parrot and smartphone for podcasts). But there are core things that are very important that you say are missing, and that is indeed worrying. Not being able to say the road ahead is blocked is an amazing ommission, as is the lack of info on screen. The ETA in particular is something we use a lot, even when we have sent a Glympse. Knowing that we won't arrive until 1.20pm is important to us. Heck, they even used to make a big thing in their advertising on this accuracy.
Could you tell me if it can do a "find alternative" route to the current one. That might at least mitigate the roadblock a little, but even then it is not really the same thing.

Greetings,
I have not found that facility. It is something I used a lot, in that, for example, my routing would go via Tunbridge Wells, which I wished to avoid, so I selected "avoid part of route". A black dot appears on the map, and an alternative around Tunbridge Wells is routed. (Very pretty, I might add...). Possibly longer in time as well as distance, but it is what I wanted, and no longer appear to have.
It is, after all, only software that needs altering to get this working.
I did find, on a couple of journeys today, that the screen is very smooth, re-routing very quick, and satellite acquisition very fast. But this is improved hardware (faster processor, and GLONASS as well as GPS). my dis-satisfaction is mainly down to the software. The hardware bits they left out I am not too bothered about, and in any event, have resulted in an overall cost reduction, so I do recognise the costing decisions that have been taken here.
Dennis, best advice I can give you is do a lot of reading before parting with your readies. Your needs may vary from mine, and be fully satisfied by the current offering.
The car icon (or the lack of it) annoys me. It is actually my Cosworth Sierra that is available as an icon from pocketgpsworld, and is naturally my choice for my PND. (I did a Transit Connect as well...)
I suppose one of two things will have happened over the next few months:
1) Tomtom will have improved things somewhat, or
2) I will have bought something else.... But what is there to replace my ageing (but fully working) Go 940?

Don't buy one Dennis. Stick with your 7whatsit
Y'know what? I'm just realising that the big screen on my built in rather rubbish system would take one of those sucker things just like a windscreen to hold my 720 on a long stalky thing. _________________ Dennis

Well, on past performance they have just made things worse compared with the older models. I really can't understand that when they have something useful working OK they then take it away with the next model. Most pieces of software that I have actually gets better and has more useful stuff with time, not worse and less.
