|
|
received a new tomtom start 20 western europe. this is to be used only as a second back up unit to my ONE XL Live W Europe unit. i can't get my head around MyTomTom as opposed to TomTomHOME that my other unit uses. i have connected it to the laptop, downloaded mytomtom, registered the device but i cannot see this device within My Computer so that i can do a windows explorer backup and add in my own POI's from my other device.
also map version is showing as version 895 and i know (as i have downloaded the latest map to my ONE XL) that the latest map is 905 but my tomtom just says my device is up to date?
so please put me out of my misery:
1. how do i back this device up
2. how do i install my poi's from the XL to this start
4. how do i install the pocketgpsworld database
3. how do i get the latest map installed.
when plugging my XL into the PC i get to access it within my computer, with this start model it does not show up at all on my laptop?
appreciate some help.
thanks. |

All Nav3 devices, including yours, do NOT show up as removable devices on your computer; rather, it will show as a network device. The user has NO access to the file system so you can't use Explorer with the device and, therefore, no ability to do a full backup of the device.
I mentioned in a previous thread of yours a couple of ways to transfer custom pois from your old device to the new one.
You should NOT be logging into MyTomTom with the same email address as you used with your previous device when you registered.
When you connect the device to MyTomTom and log in, when you select Manage Content, does it show the device up to date? If so, I guess you need to call CS at 0845 161 0009 or 020 7387 5444 and have them apply the newest map to your device. As I understand, the 905 map was just released a day or so ago. _________________ David |

I know you can install the PGPSW database and update but I'd rather that you wait for one of the mods here to post in this thread with specific info as to how to do it. So check back. _________________ David |

PGPSW speedcam installation instructions here. Scroll down to your device and the link to the instructions in the RH column. |

Also, to get the latest maps (9.05) go here and follow the instructions (if you've not already done so). As 'dhn' pointed out above, you'll need a different email address for each device. The address doesn't have to be real but TT tend to use the address you give if you ask for support.
Have fun, I'm having a nightmare updating a Start 25. |

For all the new TomTom models there are TWO methods you can use.
The normal method involves downloading and UNZIPPING the PGPSW camera files as normal and then copying them to the POI section of "Add community content" in MyTomTom.
Most people can select all the PGPSW files in one go to copy across, but some people who use Internet Explorer as their web browser will experience a bug which only lets you select ONE file at a time in MyTomTom - very boring if you have dozens of camera files to copy across each week!
For those people, there is the alternative "MyTomTom zip" version, which is a special zip file with no other files inside (no licences or help files). MyTomTom is able to load that single file onto the TomTom and extract the content it needs automatically. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Ignore my non-post.
I asked a question only to find the answer a little higher up in the thread.
Didn't know how to delete my post so just erased the text and wrote please ignore.
Obviously, that didn't work now did it!!!!!!!

@MarioG... If you stick around here, you'll get used to M8TJT's sense of humour.
