|
|
Hi
have installed a 16gb MicroSDHC card in my NUvi 1490t. I have downloaded a load of custom POI files from this site. I have tried to load them using the POILoader friom Garmin but it is giving errors.
Is there something I am doing wrong.. is there a limitation I don't know about? Do I need to set something up on the unit to recognise the SD card?
cheers

Probably. Probably. Probably. Three vague answers to three vague questions.
Can you be more specific with error messages, which instructions you are trying to follow etc. |

mmm, I had a play last night and it now seems to load then. It looks like I had too many different files.. but I hadn't seen the 8gb limit. I will see how it goes and may have to get a smaller card.
thanks for the help |

My own nuvi runs a 16 Gb SD card just fine.
See the footnote on the Garmin page, about larger SD cards on the nuvi
"using one will not harm the device but it may or may not work".

Hi Sussamb
I am sure that this information has changed recently, including the piece about larger card stating "using one will not harm the device but it may or may not work".
I am sure that when I checked about a year or so ago what max size card to use it said 16Gb, and that is what I purchased for my 1440T as it was virtually as cheap to buy a 16 as an 8?
cheers

You could be right but I believe it's always been 8Gb, Garmin handhelds can take larger cards, but if it works for you then no problem |

Hi Sussamb
Funnily enough I haven't used the SD card yet - back in December 2011 you wrote, amongst other things, to me via this forum:-
"There are all sorts of issues involved to install onto a SD card. Your best bet is to free up space on the internal memory. You can safely delete all the voice, text, vehicle, keyboard, help and EULA files that you don't need. This should free up enough space to avoid the use of a card for a while yet"
and, after following this advice, and also loading only Western Europe instead of Europe, I am currently still in limit - but hold the SD card in readiness!!
cheers

I agree with the 'install to device' route.
POIloader is configured for this and I've never had any issues. _________________ DashCam:
