Thanks, I wonder if this is a discount/sale price |
It looks like it was, i just went to get it for my 750 live and its back to £47.50, will I be paying this much, I dont think so. |
Traffic renewal is £29.95 as offered to my GO1000 connected via MyTomTom, or EUR 49.95 is displayed if renewing direct from the device, or from the website with no device connected.
Traffic is £26.99 on my Android device (Samsung S2) _________________ GO 620, Tomtom Android EU,

That sounds a bit like the GPRS Traffic service as opposed to Live Services (although, to be frank, there's hardly anything worth having other than HD Traffic in the Live Services now - TT cameras [joke], TT Local Search [more joke] and some of us have fuel prices [tee hee!] and we all get QuickGPSFix [chortle]) _________________ Dennis

Just checked again and I cannot get HD traffic without the whole bundle, which as you say is pretty useless. I think I will stick with the regular (free) traffic info |

At the rate of £40 a year, I guess that just about tells us how long TomTom will last before they join the likes of Comet, Blockbuster et al. _________________ Dennis

If it weren't for the backward steps in those models, that would make it almost worth buying to save the money over time. Hmmm. |

Another reason for not using Live services is that tomtom insist that you share data with them. No shared data no live services, fair enough, no live services it is then. |

I don't understand people's objection to data-sharing in this case.
If you want to use LIVE Services to do a local search, or to tell you the weather, or to show you the traffic between home and work, then you have to share your location with TomTom's servers. It couldn't be done any other way!
And any other positional data for generating Traffic information is anonymised before it is ever used.
How TomTom uses your data _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

What is the problem? I turned on sharing back in about 1900 when they first started asking for the speed data. This ended up being used in the IQ routes map data, which significantly improved the maps for all. With HD Traffic, it probably sends info that improves the HD Traffic for all. But it isn't tracking "me", and the data is anonymous. Why would you not want it? What would it do that isn't already being done (your cell phone is tracked, your car number plate is read, your bank card is monitored, your computer's IP address is logged)? None of this stops you going about your business in the usual way, and doesn't reveal anything about *you* at all. |

How do you expect TomTom to provide Live Services relevant to your location if you won't let them know where that location is |

Because they (Tom tom), are not specific in the data which they are collecting, or as to whether or not that data is stored. Clearly instantaneous location data if fine, storing of that data or of places visited is not. |
