|
|
Hi all,
Just got a Nissan Qashqai with the Nissan Connect system. I'm very tempted to subscribe to get the UK camera database, but I would like to try it out with 1 known camera on my daily commute to see how the system works.
Is it possible to get just the row from the csv file for this camera...
http://www.speedcameramap.co.uk/index.php?lt=53.37260818254567&ln=-2.2107303142547607&zm=16
It's on the A34 close to John Lewis/Sainsburys in Cheadle.
According to google earth, the GPS location is approx
53 22'22.35 N
2 12'39.93 W
I know I can knock up my own POI file according to the instructions , but I would like to see what the actual format of the file I would get from here if I subscribe is.
Thanks

As far as I'm aware, we don't hand out free samples.
The camera format is a .CSV file containing rows .....
-2.12345,50.12345,"a GATSO camera ahead, 40 mph, W. WARNING! [ID: 1]"
Note: - The above coordinates are false, the [ID: 1] is a (unique) serial number for the camera.
You said you could knock one up yourself, so I suggest you could try creating one for that camera to see how it goes (we are not fans of scdb). _________________ Dennis

Thanks, I had knocked one up already with a single line
-2..., 53....., Test POI warning
I was just interested in the actual text that is provided so I could see how it looks on my screen.
What does the W in "W. WARNING" mean, is that a compass direction ? |

I'm sorry, I don't create the database, I just downloaded one for the Nissan Connect and quoted you a line from it.
As the important part is obviously the coordinates, I suggest you copy what I quoted, but substituting with the correct coordinates - that should surely be enough to demonstrate the database on your device - irrespective of direction (I understand the Connect doesn't do Directional anyway) or speed you'll be able to see what it looks like, so it won't take a great stretch of the imagination to guess what accurate details will look like?
What I'm saying is if you load up a camera, you will see whether and how it shows on your device - that's the important thing - doesn't matter if it shows a 70mph camera or a 30mph one, doesn't matter if it shows facing N, S, E, or W, doesn't matter if it shows a redlight or mobile or Gatso. Simply your question is "Does it show something intelligible at the right place?". _________________ Dennis

I still think it would be a good idea...
Release a test version, so a potential subscriber can see what he or she gets for their money.
It could include either
1. some dummy cameras
2. One camera type eg 20mph Gatso
3. What would be really clever is if a potential subscriber could enter their postcode and the system would automatically generate a set of files containing JUST the cameras and mobile sites within say a 5 mile radius of their address.
That way they could see how the system works and check it's accuracy all in one go. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

And all that just to save worrying about £20 a year? How many different free sample versions? What happens when the free sample doesn't include the user's local camera?
Best free sample idea is to get Cameralert for iPhone or Android - the free App includes a one-off free download of the latest database to demonstrate how good it is. _________________ Dennis

Back to my original question, the reason I was asking is that Nissan Connect is quite a simple system and some people have said they don't like how it appears, the descriptions are too long and go off the side of the screen, etc?
I've now created my own POI file with 3 test points on my daily commute, with descriptions "Test Camera 1" , "Test Camera 2". It popped up with "You are now approaching Test Camera 1". All well and good, quite impressed.

I'm not doubting how good it is at all, I just wanted to see how it looks on my particular system before I take the plunge.
I'll try changing my Test Camera 1 to the description you have above, see how it looks. Any more examples of some real desccriptions? |

Yup, people do....
Remember how they used to moan about 59p or however much the iPhone app used to cost?

As many as we have available. It's only a computer doing a bit of number crunching once the code is written. Remember MaFt is just sitting there anyway, itching for new ideas to use up all that free time he has...

1.VERY unlikely
2. Means we want to know about it
3. Could even give the subscriber a free period right from the off.
(would need a change to the rules about already being subscribed) _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

With the normal Connect download it would say: "You are now approaching a GATSO camera ahead, 40 mph, W. WARNING! [ID: 1]"
There is also a different Connect download (marked as 'old') that would result in: "You are now approaching W-GATSO:1@40" but some people didn't like this hence the longer version above"

Gotta get all the backend admin running on Google Maps Javascript API v3 else there'll be no database for cameras or POIs
