|

Hi,
I have enabled this feature on my top gear Tom Tom live sat nav.
Does this option warn me when I go over the listed speed limit for the road, like will it go off if I do 31 in a 30?
Or does it warn the driver at somthing like 35mph, which maybe then too late to slow down for a camera?
Is it right that the Tom Tom will also alarm if your approaching the camera too fast?
I just want some extra warning in case of upcoming cameras on the roads, especially in case there are new ones not added to the database. I don't speed, but I'm a new driver, just a little worried |

If you enable the "Warn when driving faster than allowed" feature, then TomToms will only alert you when you are about 4-5 mph over the speed limit for the road.
If you enable speed camera warnings, they will alert you to the presence of a camera ahead, irrespective of what speed you are driving at.
Be aware though that the TT-supplied speed camera warnings are not the most accurate or up to date around.
The camera database from PGPSW is generally considered to be better, certainly in the UK.
It also allows you to install voice warnings that advise you of the speed limit for the camera ahead, something that you cannot get with TomTom's own warning system. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Also remember that the speed limit is the limit that TT believed it to be at the time the map was released. It is not necessarily accurate! _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

How do I activate the 'Warm Me' option? I could do with it on these chilly days... |

not sure how all menus are set up on the various models but on my 930 its:
change preferences - safety preferences - tick warn when driving faster than allowed - done - pick the sound you want (i use beep 5 is like a siren) - done - ignore the drive on left/right unless you want to set it its upto you.
if its a different setup on your model post back and one of the experts will be able to advise. |

Just to give you an idea of how (in)accurate the TT speed warnings are...
I did a 93 mile run last week with the latest map (which was only realeased about a month ago) and three new speed limits (all 60 changed to 40) were not known by the TT.
I was running a second TT Live with the TT camera database alongside my usual TT with the PGPSW database. The latter had four locations which were unknown to the TT database - one of which had a 'safety partnership' camera van in place.
The TT offerings may be better in other regions, but for me, they are not accurate enough of the time. I usually run with just the PGPSW database and no speed warnings. |

Just for an interesting bit of info, my build-in TomTom Carminat warns for 1mph over the TomTom limit (all my GO devices are like Andy says, 4mph over the limit).
And don't anybody go telling me I always claim never to exceed speed limits, there are enough wrong limits in TT maps to demonstrate my point (anybody know why Motorway slip roads are all 60mph according to TT, e.g. the slip road from M25 anti clockwise onto M4 westbound, M1 junction J23A southbound onto dual carriageway A42, etc, etc, etc?) _________________ Dennis

I agree there, after joining PGPS I was able to switch off the Tom Tom speed advisory widget. Totally useless in France .....as are the maps, I just had to upgrade in their winter sale.....hope ther is a marked improvement in accuracy.
