Couple of days ago my two satnavs directed me down this lane. At the start of the lane was a sign saying "road closed ahead at ford". Just where "ahead" was it didn't indicate. I was less than a mile from my destination and as I got to this lane, an enormous HGV went down it - I was going to an industrial estate, so I followed, hoping the closed ford was beyond the estate.
It wasn't - it was a few hundred yards short of the entrance and the HGV turned off into a farmyard 100 yards or so before the ford! Both TTs refused to accept a blocked road to avoid 100 yards ahead, so I had to turn round and guess my way until I found an alternative which cost me a three mile detour.
Google maps Streetview (unflooded). Here The sign says "Do not cross when in flood", but seeing it in Streetview I don't know how you tell it's flooded as much as this guy obviously discovered. I later realised that I could have crossed by the footbridge and walked to make my pickup - it was only an envelope!

This is another example of the 'elf'n safty' people gone mad with over signposting again. The road is blocked with both barriers and a flooded car, but some idiot still thinks it's absolutely essential to put up a Road Closed sign |

Have you considered that it might be two people - one is signs, the other is barriers. They each get paid for doing their bit and will get paid again for taking them away? _________________ Dennis

No, I hadn't considered that. I suppose it makes sense. |

It's OK for tractors though, which I assume is its main purpose? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

The markings on the barrier signify lane closed so probably aren't necessary with the "road closed" sign. However, shouldn't there also be a "Flood" sign there to state the bleeding obvious.
