Back in October 2010 there was a landmark prosecution in which a motorist was convicted of wilfully obstructing a police officer by using a laser jammer. He was given a 30 day ban as a result.
Has anyone heard of any other prosecutions like this? What new technology is out there? Presumably someone will find the technology to modify jammers in some way to avoid the detector being detected?!
The Roadnet website is down and they don't answer the phone anymore. Are they still in business? |

There was a recent case in the news where a motorist was convicted of obstructing the police for simply flashing his headlights at other drivers as they were approaching a police "speed trap"..
Two issues from that
1. How is that trying to prevent an offence being committed is suddenly illegal?
2. How was it "proved" that he was not simply warning the other drivers of his presence (as per Highway code) while coincidentally being near a mobile camera site?
As is often the case, the law was used to "make an example" of someone, in order to warn off others from doing the same. |
